CÔTE D’IVOIRE

With almost 1.6 million passengers in 2015 (+33% in 2 years) Abidjan international airport is on its way to re-establishing itself as the natural hub of West Africa. The airport is benefiting from the strong economic recovery of the Côte d’Ivoire, following a major political crisis, and the strong development of Air Côte d’Ivoire, based at Abidjan airport.

Modern facilities have helped make the airport a platform of reference in West Africa. Abidjan is the 2nd airport in Africa to handle the Air France A380 scheduled flights (following Johannesburg).

In order to develop the hub activity, Abidjan International Airport obtained in 2015 the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) certification which will allow direct flights between Abidjan and the US as required by the American regulation.

CHALLENGES

> Maintain its position of main hub in West Africa

> Support traffic growth by developing airport facilities

> Offer a high quality of service in line with the best international standards

> Investment: Almost 45 billion FCFA (69 M€) have been invested since 1996, of which 20 billion FCFA (30 M€) between 2010 and 2015, enabling the airport to become the platform of reference in West Africa:

■ Extension & modernization of the terminal from 11,000 to 23,000 m²

■ Reinforcement & lengthening of the runway to 3,000 m

■ Reinforcement of the airport apron, renovation of access roads and expansion of car parking

■ A380 compliance works for aircraft parking, runway and taxiways

■ Refurbishment of the international departure area including the renovation of the business lounge and the refurbishment of the boarding area following a “walk-through” design

■ Improvement of the international terminal facilities

In response to new challenges and to support future traffic growth, AERIA is planning 65 billion FCFA (99 M€) of investments by 2029, of which 37 billion (56 M€) by 2019. Including:

■ Construction of a parallel taxiway ■ Extension of the apron ■ Extension of the international
