we believe we do we are We believe the paradigm has

shifted from “why” to “when”

in terms of practising

responsible architecture. We

hope to create ‘biophilic

spaces’ that respond to the

changing socio-cultural,

economic and

environmental traits. We try

to update and upgrade

ourselves through constant

research activities. Every

project aims at exploring and

enhancing the architectonic

value of the design.

All our completed projects

have earned us numerous

accolades and have been

published in several

international and national

magazines over a slim span

of 8 years since the studio

started in October 2005

which include:

Winning International

Property awards 2011 in

Public Service Architecture,

Design Firm of the Future,

Architect of the Year, IIID MK

interior awards, Lafarge ARC

design awards, Best pavilion

design award and various

other accolades.

Bestowed with architectural

hegemony of the past, post-

millennium India emerges out

of a societal dichotomy of

unabashed growth in real-

estate industry, equipped

with new-age technology

while struggling against

budgetary constraint, heavy

reliance over age old

construction technique and

absence of professional

outlook.

Our endeavour is to set free

built environment from the

prevalent crustacean

architecture and infill

sustainability through a

holistic approach of uniting

architecture, interior,

landscape, signage and

product design.

Abin Chaudhuri, an

architecture graduate from

Jadavpur University (J.U.)

India, founded “Abin Design

Studio” (ADS) in October

2005.

ADS gyrates among the few

young enthusiastic design

studios that aims at

centrifuging the anomalies

by seeking to a universal

dialect of “responsible

architecture” which builds

upon low carbon footprint

and extensive use of locally

available materials despite

the continuous conflict

between logical reasoning

and creative senses of

emotion.

IMI - along with a tie up with a foreign

business school, has the latest

facilities in terms of technology and

amenities.

The concept behind the design was

that of the colours in nature, in

particular the sky. To achieve the

colours in the glass facade Vanceva

PVB has been used as the sandwich

As with the other IMI’s, the campus at

Bhubaneswar offers the latest

facilities and amenities to its students.

The design is climate responsive and

uses locally available materials, like

laterite blocks. A sculptured wall in

the facade, with replicas from Orissan

temples, adds a local traditional touch

to the modern design. A central plaza

forms the focal point of the campus.

To create a varied screen we have

broken the glass facade with light

boards and eboards. This facade

serves to shield the building from the

sun, as well as plays with light and

shade to create an interesting interior,

as well as breaks the monotony of the

glass facade, creating a warm,

homely and interesting exterior. All

the rooms open onto the lawn,

ensuring adequate daylight and

exposure to nature, though the solar

influx does not heat them up

A rooftop garden serves to both

enhance the visual appeal of the hotel

environmental requirements of the

central green zone that flows through

The International Children Activity

Centre is a radical new take on how

we work with spaces and forms. We

have attempted to create a

multilayered space for children, where

fluid build forms are used to create 3

dimensional spaces. The three tunnel

structures are articulated around a

common center yet differ in usage

and design, creating variety and

layers of space for effective

interaction as well as privacy zones.

The Tagore museum was

conceptualized to showcase the

works, life and art of Rabindranath

Tagore, on the Visva Bharati

University Campus. We have tried to

integrate the design with the existing

campus, its heritage and culture, its

open spaces and its pedestrian flow.

The Istanbul Disaster Prevention and

Education Centre is a fusion of

modern international design principles

and the older local architectural

heritage. The campus has been

visualized as a single monolithic form,

disseminating various sensory and

spatial experiences through a

symbiotic coupling of interior and

exterior spaces. The Centre has been

designed as a cluster of pyramidal

structures of varying sizes with a

slanting cut off at the top to allow the

northern light source to enter.

The entrances have been disguised

by rolling lush green turf, where the

form of an undulating rug has inspired

us. Capitalizing on the natural

curiosity generated by what might be

underlying such a rug, the passerby is

encouraged to figure out what the

station might contain. The canopies at

the station entrances have been

designed to appear as if they have

swelled up from the turf itself

generate this curiosity for the

passerby.

This Pavilion built for a local socio-

religious festival in a small town on the

fringes of Kolkata. It was a temporary

structure to shelter an idol which was the

focus of this festival. Set amidst a

carnival atmosphere, the constant flux of

people was a factor considered while

conceptualizing its design. A notion of

continuous movement was its guiding

principle. Another factor to consider was

the reusability of the employed materials

after the event. Economizing was

important, especially because of the

constrained budget. This being a

community project, involvement of the

club members provided enthusiastic

manpower.

The installation was conceived using

locally available bamboo, painted in

rainbow colors to reflect the colour and

vibrancy of the culture while reflective

stickers combined with strategic lighting

highlighted the same in the night as well.

The international book fair clients

want to express the complexity of

the city’s ‘media’ transparency.

We attempted their wish through

fragmental geometry using

plywood glass and MDF panels.

We decided to work with chromatic

transparent structures to ensure that

the design would align and provide

continuity with the existing structures

surrounding the site. The concept

was developed on the basis of the

Olympic logo, which signified five

colored bands, which denoted the five

continents that participated in the

Games. The interlinked rings show

how all of humanity unites together to

participate in the celebration of

sporting excellence.

A combination of wood and glass has

been used in the design of this office.

The reception is a monolithic folding

structure made of solid acrylic

material. The use of wood in the

ceiling creates two distinct planes and

the lighting clearly enhances this very

feature. Along the corridor, colorful

slits in the wall create a vibrant

ambience in the office.

Children can associate with colour.

Keeping this in mind the predominant

theme in this design is the rainbow.

Each classroom of pre-primary

section has a different theme -

Desert, Underwater World, Nature,

Zoo, Cartoon Wonderland and

Jurassic, thus becoming a unique

spatial experience. The flooring, wall

and soft board patterns compliment

the individual themes. A fun ambience

is created which entices the children

to come to school and study.

The concept of fragmental geometry

has been used in the reception and

lobby area, whereas the rest of the

office is straight lines and linear

spaces. Perforated screens have

been used as partitions in the

workspace area. Graphics on the wall

add to the ambience of the cafeteria

and conference rooms. The

predominantly white office is

complimented by glass partitions in

different colours.

The South City clubhouse is one of

our more prestigious projects, and is

situated within the south city

apartment complex. The clubhouse

scales geometrically from a large

linear entrance lobby to more fluid,

smaller, and encapsulated areas like

the bar, the children’s play area, and

the lounge. Extensive use of non-

linear forms, multiple levels and bright

colours inside the clubhouse ensure a

vivid contrast and an entertaining

experience for the visitors.
