TRAIN RIDE with a trip to the wine-growing region of goriška brda (with programme)

The steam train will start its journey from the railway station Je-senice at 8:53 and pass the Alpine jewels of Bled and Bohinjska Bistrica on its way towards the final destination in the town Kanal in the valley of the river Soča. The train continues its way to the final train station in Nova Gorica.

For railway enthusiasts this two-hours-long train ride along the Bohinj railway will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience. The view of Lake Bled, crossing and passing numerous gorges, riding through many tunnels, the longest of which measures 6.327 m (3.93 miles), will absolutely not leave you indifferent. Make sure your cameras are at hand! On the train we will be accompanied by tour guides and staff who will provide a merry atmosphere and give information about the train, the Bohinj railway itself and the regions we will be driving through. There will also be a restaurant car where drinks and small snacks will be served.

At the railway station in Kanal we will get off the train and conti-nue our way on buses – accompanied by tour guides we will drive along the river Soča pass the villages Anhovo and Plave to the wi-ne-growing region at the Slovene-Italian border – Goriška Brda. In this picturesque area we will enjoy the views of beautiful small villages, vineyards and fruit gardens.

On our way to Dobrovo, the centre of Goriška Brda, we will make a short stop in the village Gonjače and climb up a 23 m (75.5 ft) lo-okout tower, where the whole region of Goriška Brda will be seen from. With some luck with the weather, the neighbouring regions of the Vipava valley, the plateau of Kras, Friuli in Italy, the Italian Dolomites and the Julian Alps will be clearly seen from there.

Afterwards our journey will continue past the medieval village of Šmartno into the centre of the region, Dobrovo. Because we will have been ‘on the road’ for quite a while by then it will be time to stop for lunch, which will be served at one of the local restaurants.

Before our return to the Soča valley we will also visit the largest wine cellar in the region and there you‘ll be able to buy yourselves some of the prominent wines of Goriška Brda. Returning to Nova Gorica, the centre of the western part of Slovenia, lying right at the Slovene-Italian border, we will board the steam train again and start our railway journey back towards the region of Gorenjska.

For groups (45 people and more) special tailor-made programmes within the 'regular dates' or on special dates can be arranged.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Steam train is not only a train, it is also a place where different events can be arranged – weddings, business meetings and pre-sentations. A chivalrous feast can be served on the train or a unique atmosphere in a story from another time can be arranged with the help of an actors' group.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Bookings can be made at the tourist office ABC rent a car d.o.o. and authorised par-tners. To make a reservation, we need some information about the passenger (first name and surname, date of birth and contact phone number). The reservation is con-firmed when the ticket is paid. ABC rent a car d.o.o. reserves the right to cancel the tour 7 days prior to departure if the minimum number of participants is not achieved.

Reservations for individual guests can be cancelled up to 7 days prior to departure without any cancellation fee. If the cancellation occurs within the last 7 days before the trip, ABC rent a car d.o.o. reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee of 50% of the programme price. If the cancellation is made on the day of the trip or in case of no-show, ABC rent a car d.o.o. will retain the whole prepaid amount.

Diesel haulage may substitute the steam locomotive in case of extreme weather (drought and thus fire danger) or engine failure or other transport means may be used through the afflicted part of the way in order to complete the journey. If it is necessary to undertake repairs to one of the museum cars, it may be substituted with a normal one. Some changes in timetable are possible, because of dense traffic and some delays may occurre on the museum train.

Tickets must be booked in advance. Bicycles can be taken on the

train without any charge, but reservation must be done in advance.
