  1. 1. Many foul and undesirable things are filtered through drains. Without proper care, these waste products keep building up to the point where they give off a really awful stench. It helps to know how to get rid of this foul odor.
  2. 2. All sorts of food manner can get stuck in a kitchen sink drain. At times it will find ways to escape from draining, and fill up the entire room with a horrible odor.
  3. 3. 1) Pour 1 cup (8 oz.) of white vinegar into the drain. 2) Leave it for 30 minutes. 3) Rinse the drain with hot water.
  4. 4. Bathtub and shower drain odor can be even worse than a kitchen sink. In a bathroom a lot more dirt and debris get pushed down the filter. Just like a kitchen drain, you can eliminate this odor in a few easy steps.
  5. 5. 1 Unscrew the drain cover. 2 Dump 1 cup of baking soda down the drain, and let it sit for one minute. 3 Pour 2 cups of white vinegar down the drain. This will create a fizz that climbs, so keep it from escaping with a dry wash cloth. 4 After successfully tempering the fizz leakage with the wash cloth, leave the cloth over the drain for 30 minutes allowing solution to sizzle. 5 Boil 2 cups of water to have on standby. 6 Carefully remove the wash cloth that covered the drain and dump the boiling water in. 7 Repeat steps 1-6 as necessary. * Warning: Do not breathe in fumes.
  6. 6. Most of the time these are relegated to cellars and other areas with industrial type flooring. Floor drains can look like they are built for anything, but they are deceptively frail making them prone to backing up. When this happens you will see stuff start oozing out of the drain, and smell a horrible smell foot odor.
  7. 7. Liquid drain cleaner is ineffectual for the sort of long, horizontal piping found beneath basement drains. If your piping is not made of steel or cast iron, you can try acid-based cleaner. If it is, doing so is a big no-no, so you should move to step 2. The issue is most likely a blocked vent or branch line. Try to unstuff the pipe with a closet auger. If nether drain cleaner or a closet auger clears up the blockage, its time to call a plumber. 1 2 3
