About 16th: Where Jesus is the main attraction

Vision StatementOur vision is to have Bible-Centric Ministry that will Reach, Rebuild and Reproduce, Disciples through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Mission StatementOur mission is to introduce people to Jesus Christ and to encourage the cultivation of a personal relationship with Him. We are, therefore, committed to Evangelizing the Sinner, Exalt-ing the Savior, and Equipping the Saints.

Philosophy of MinistryIn order to accomplish our mission we will faithfully pursue seven basic philosophies in our ministries:

1. EXALT the Savior through dynamic worship.

2. EVANGELIZE the Unbeliever through outreach.

3. ESTABLISH the New Believer in the basic doctrines of the faith.

4. ENCOURAGE every Believer to cultivate an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

5. EQUIP every Believer to do ministry through spiritual gift identification.

6. EDIFY one another through the exercising of spiritual gifts.

7. EMBRACE one another so that everyone feels loved, cared for, and accepted and enjoys being a part of our fellowship.

From...Rev.

Arthur Price, Jr.

Greetings!

Today is about tomorrow. Yes, we will most respectfully remember our yester-days, forever etched upon HIStory by those who faced malice and mayhem, resisted billy clubs and bullies, withstood torture and terror at every turn, yet in all these

things they remained faithful and fearless, determined that those bitter days could, would, should be better days. They resisted evil. They desisted from hate. They insisted on justice. They assisted each other. They existed for a dream. They persisted because they never stopped thinking about tomorrow because HIStory marches on!

Today 50 years ago was also about tomorrow. When a bomb exploded claiming the young lives of four girls—Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wes-ley. That “today” galvanized a generation and matured a movement. So on this “today” we commemorate a bitter day become the seed of better days. And on this “today,” trium-phantly victorious through the One who loved us, we celebrate HIStory we must tell! To God be the glory! Great things He has done! Amen and amen.

Hymn: To God Be the Glory Text: Fanny J. Crosby Music: William H. Doane

1. To God be the glory, great things he hath done! So loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the lifegate that all may go in.

Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son, and give him the glory, great things he hath done!

2. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. (Refrain)

3. Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing thru Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our vic’try, when Jesus we see. (Refrain)

Hymn: I Surrender All Text: Judson W. Van DeVenter Music: Winfield S. Weeden

1. All to Jesus I surrender; all to him I freely give; I will ever love and trust him, in his presence daily live.

Refrain: I surrender all, I surrender all, all to thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.

2. All to Jesus I surrender; humbly at his feet I bow, worldly pleasures all forsaken; take me, Jesus, take me now. (Refrain)

3. All to Jesus I surrender; make me, Savior, wholly thine; fill me with thy love and power; truly know that thou art mine. (Refrain)

4. All to Jesus I surrender; Lord, I give myself to thee; fill me with thy love and power; let thy blessing fall on me. (Refrain)

5. All to Jesus I surrender; now I feel the sacred flame. O the joy of full salvation! Glory, glory, to his name! (Refrain)

The Christian and the Social Order From: Micah 6:8;

Isaiah 1:17; Amos 5:24; James 1:22; 2:8-9, 14-16; 1:27 RSV

What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fa-therless, plead for the widow.

Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well.

But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works?

Can his faith save him?

If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, “go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit?

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Great Bible Story Speak

to Your Life!

Scripture: Joshua 1:1-14 New King James Version (NKJV) 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

The Order to Cross the Jordan

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 “Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’”

12 And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh Joshua spoke, saying, 13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is giving you rest and is giving you this land.’ 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But you shall pass before your brethren armed, all your mighty men of valor, and help them...

In ClosingThis program was designed by Jesse Palmer of The Very Idea Group in great apprecia-tion of the remarkable faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ and His kingdom of Pastor Price and the people of the 16th Street Baptist Church.

The program was printed through the generosity and graciousness of Bo Stanford, owner of American Printing Company, Birmingham.

Perhaps you noticed the recent addition of the large masonary planters at the 6th Avenue steps and the planters and rockers on the porch of the church administration building. For the story behind these aesthetic enhancements, see www.16thStreetBap-tist.org/story.
