Archives Awareness Week was established in 1992 by the City of Tampa Archives Advisory Commiee. During this week, local archives come together to present their collecons through exhibits and programs that convey the value of archives in the idenficaon, preservaon and conservaon of historic records. Archives and Records is a division of the City Clerk’s Office. Exhibits Admission fees may be charged to view museum exhibits. Historic Sacred Heart Church: a Witness and Participant in Tampa’s HistorySunday, July 15th • 2:00 p.m.Sacred Heart Church • 509 North Florida Avenue

Join the docents of Sacred Heart Church attired in 1905 period dress as they share the remarkable history of the church which has stood at the same downtown location since 1859. Learn about the founding families, and the citrus farming family that mortgaged one fourth of their acreage to donate funds for a stained glass window in the “new” church which was completed in 1905.

Film Archives: A Look at Tampa’s Past Monday, July 16th • 3:00 p.m.City of Tampa Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, River Center402 West Laurel Street

Did you know that a motion picture was filmed in Tampa in 1918? Join local historian Fred Hearns to learn about the historical significance of The Birth of a Race, which was filmed in Tampa one hundred years ago. Photos from thehistoric Tampa Photo Supply Collection will also be shared, and attendees will receive a commemorative booklet. A reception with refreshments will follow this event.

Join TBHC docents as they share stories of our much adored symbol, the American flag. The exhibit features more than 20 original flags, including an 1876 Grand Union Flag, a “Know Nothing” flag from 1849, a 14-starflag from 1791, a 27-star flag marking Florida’s admission into the Union, as well as original photography andartwork, including Andy Warhol’s iconic print “Moonwalk.”
