About Indic Teen Fest

Teenage is quite an impressionable age, and we all know how much important it is to nurture the adolescents with the right values and direction in their personal as well as professional life; but in our country, the education system rarely goes beyond the classrooms. Keeping this in mind, Gateway Education and Indic Festivals curated the first edition of Indic Teen Fest at Gateway Campus, Sonipat from 8th June to 10th June, 2018.

The objective was to give the young students a chance to meet eminent personalities, interact with the best minds, discover their passion, and learn various professional and personal skills. In a nutshell, it was designed to give the teenagers a holistic lifetime exposure, coupled with fun and entertainment.

The three day event saw an explosive list of 30 speakers, 50+ activities and a potential army of 350 teenagers. The workshops were mainly designed on the theme of ‘Ancient wisdom, Modern insights, and Future dreams’.

The Day 1 began with high hopes, intense registrations and a positive inauguration ceremony. The speaker sessions kick started immediately, giving the teenagers a glimpse of what is in stored for them in the coming days. Students had an amazing time with speakers Luv Ranjan, Chandrahas Halai, Shobhit Mathur and Anand Ranganathan and as they got their hands on the writing workshop with Terribly Tiny Tales. The Stand-Up Comedy show in the evening left the audience’s cheeks hurting with laughter.

Day 209 JUNE 2018

The second day began with morning fitness routines including activities like Zumba, Yoga, Horse riding, Volleyball, Basketball, etc. Ms. Madhu Kishwar, Mr. Ramesh RB, Mr. Radhakrishnan Pillai and Ms. Shashikala Ananth were the speakers for the sessions in the first half.

The second half was graced by workshop of Mr. Sudarshan Khanna, and sessions of Professor Vijay Chariar, and successful entrepreneurs Mr. Saumil Majumdar and Mr. Tanuj Bhojwani. The speakers discussed with the students about charting their career paths, being an entrepreneur and finding joy and value within themselves. The most glamorous happening was the Met Gala night, which saw singing and dancing competitions, and a crazily beloved host, Dj Zaeden.

Day 310 JUNE 2018

As the day 3 began with morning fitness routine, students had already developed close bonding and looked forward to attend the workshops planned ahead. The day was honored by the presence of Mr. Hindol Sengupta, Mr. Jitin Chawla, Mr. Apurv Mishra and Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal.

The Valedictory function concluded the first ever Indic Teen Fest with grandeur. The winners of last night’s competitions were announced, and Ms. Soumya Aggarwal gave a vote of thanks to everyone involved in making the event a success. With promises of yet another edition, hopes of meeting the new acquaintances soon, and joys of being a part of an ultimate, enriching experience, the event was concluded.

ACTIVITIES Tree plantation

They say, “The best time to plant trees was 20 years ago, and the second best time is now.” Taking cue from this, all the guests and speakers at the Fest planted trees at the Gateway Campus as a token of support for love and life.

Memento Giving

A memento was given to all the speakers as a small token of gratitude for taking out their time and sharing their valuable insights with one and all.

Yoga and Zumba

Energizing yoga and lively Zumba in the morning kept the young teens going for the rest of the day.

Sports

The teens enjoyed various sports including Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis and Horse riding. Well as we know, a fit body is the key to a fit mind.

Singing and Dance Competitions

The students got a chance to showcase their talent in the dancing and singing competitions. Indeed, the audience had a terrific time.

Entertainment Nights

The Indic Teen Fest had a fair share of entertainment element. The students madly grooved to the tunes of Dj Zayden, laughed their hearts out at the Moode Panti Show, hosted by Stand-up comedians Anubhav Singh Bassi and Harsh Gujral and awed by the dance performance of Foot free Boys.

SPEAKERSOne of the best highlights of Indic Teen Fest was the list of impressive, A-lister speakers from diverse fields. From renowned Bollywood Director to Planning Economic Advisor to the Government of India, various eminent speakers shared their knowledge and experiences with the young bunch of students, discussing innovative topics, addressing adolescent fears and teaching them key life lessons for their present life and beyond.

Anand Ranganathan

He was the Nehru Centenary Scholar from Cambridge and has run his lab in International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Delhi for 16 years. In 2015 he joined as an Associate Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University. His works have been extensively published in peer-review journals, and his authored columns and books have been popular with everyone.

The famous Scientist and Author took a gripping session on ‘Future in Science and Journalism’, where he emphasized the changing dynamics of today’s Indian journalism.

Apurv Mishra

Apurv Kumar Mishra completed his B.A. LL.B (Hons.) from National Law Institute University Bhopal. After graduation, he joined the Mumbai office of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. (as it then was) where he worked in the Private Client Practice team and the Banking and Finance team. In 2013 he was selected for the Young India Fellowship- a scholarship based, one-year, liberal arts program at Ashoka University. He has also worked at the India office of a Washington-based strategic advisory firm called Albright Stonebridge Group. He conducted a beautiful session on ‘The Great Indian Villains’, prompting students to ask questions on karma and fate.

Chandrahas Halai

An Engineering consultant with interests in various fields, he has taught close to 20 different subjects in science, mathematics & engineering as visiting faculty at various esteemed colleges. His research papers have been published in leading platforms. Recently, he published his book on Vedic Mathematics.

He took sessions on ‘Vedic mathematics’, in which he explored the amazing mathematics developed by the famous ancient mathematician, Pingala.

Jitin Chawla

An influential career counselor, he is the Founder and Director of North India’s top most career counseling firm, Centre for Career Development, located in Delhi. He is a also a member of National Career Development Association, United States of America and actively participates in national and international conferences, TV shows and Radio shows. He has worked with major companies and writes for various prestigious magazines and journals.

In his Career Counseling session, he tried to address the questions of teenagers, and guided them on the correct career path.

Hindol Sengupta

An award-winning author of eight books, he won the Wilbur Award in 2018 for Being Hindu: Understanding a Peaceful Path in a Violent World, the first book on Hinduism to win the prestigious prize given by The Religion Communicators Council of America. His other books have also won prestigious prizes and nominations. He is also the founder of the global solutions journalism platform Grin.

He took an engaging session on ‘Discussion on Ideals of Swami Vivekananda’, where he shared the ideals of Vivekananda, the ‘Modern Monk’, who always focused on action and education.

Luv Ranjan

The renowned Indian film director, producer and screenwriter, Ranjan made his directorial debut with ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ (2011), which was a sleeper hit. After this, he directed a series of successful movies under his banner; the latest blockbuster being ‘Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety’ (2018).

He took an engaging session on ‘Life, Camera and Determination’, as he discussed the nuances and challenges of film making, while giving a glimpse of the glamorous movie world on and off the camera.

Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai

A renowned leadership Coach and Author, he currently works as the Deputy Director of Chanakya International Institute of Leadership Studies (CIILS), at University of Mumbai. He is a best-selling author, visiting faculty to prestigious institutions and has been a trainer and strategy consultant to over 500 national and international organizations.

He hosted a motivating session on ‘Life teachings- Chanakya’, in which he taught the importance of clever mind and calm focus.

Madhu Kishwar

An academician, writer, and social activist, she is currently a Professor at the Maulana Azad National University. She is also the founder of the human rights organization Manushi, and the author of several books, the latest of which is Modi, Muslims and Media: Voices from Narendra Modi’s Gujarat.

She took a crucial session on ‘Sexual Freedom and Responsibility’, in which she picked up topics that are considered taboo in India, but are extremely important, like consent, sex education and teenage pregnancy.

Ramesh RB

A Grand Master in Chess in 2003, he has been the Coach for the Indian chess team for last 10 years. He currently coaches over 400 students in the US and has also been a leading force for World’s youngest International Master.

He took an interactive session on ‘Developing Strategy and Concentration’. He stressed on the importance of skills like good concentration, single minded determination, hard-working ability and short-medium-long term strategies, to be successful.

Saumil Majumdar

A successful entrepreneur, he is the Co-founder, CEO & Managing Director of SportzVillage (www.sportzvillage.com) – India’s leading grassroots sports organization, that today helps 1 million people to experience the magic of sport.. He has also received the CII Emerging Entrepreneur Award and has been recognized as one of the “Top 50 Leaders influencing Education” by Education World.

He took an interesting session on ‘Being an Entrepreneur’, sharing the challenges and perks of entrepreneurship, especially nowadays when it has become one of the top trends.

Sanjeev Sanyal

Coveted Rhodes Scholar, he is an internationally acclaimed economist and best-selling author. Having had a long list of achievements under his name, he currently works as the Principal Economic Advisor to the Government of India and also serves as the Co-Chair of the G-20 Framework Working Group.

He took an inspiring session on ‘Life as an Adventure’, in which he shared excerpts from his personal journey and talked about how to calculate risks, get up from the downfalls, and live life as the best adventure.

Shashikala Anath

A recipient of the Ashoka Foundation Scholarship for innovative contribution to the field of architecture, she has researched Vaastu, for over twenty years now. A prolific author, she has also been running a design and self-development centre called Vadivam for the last three decades.

She took an enriching session on ‘Know your space’, in which she discussed how to incorporate the wisdom of Vaastu in creative and harmonious ways with the modern lifestyle.

Tanuj Bhojwani

A Young India Fellow from Ashoka university, he is an enthusiastic entrepreneur, currently working at Bharat Innovation Fund, a venture capital firm. He’s gone on to start businesses in the drone space, and is now using his expertise to help the government create Digital Sky, an ambitious public platform to regulate and encourage use of drones in India.

He took a much loved session on ‘Charting your career path’, in which he discussed that how career is important, but planning it every time may not be always equally important.

Shobhit Mathur

A social entrepreneur, he is the Executive Director of The Vision India Foundation, an organization that seeks to reduce the barriers of citizens in public policy, by mentoring young people to become agents of change.

He took a session on ‘Leadership skills’, a key skill that is required to inspire and change the world. This session taught the students how to take a single idea to its destiny.

Vijay Chariar

A professor at Centre for Rural Development and Technology at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, he currently works at big national projects, integrating the principles of sustainable design and traditional knowledge available with the indigenous communities in the housing and sanitation space.

He hosted a very warm session on ‘Joy is you’, in which he emphasized how the journey of joy begins from within and not from any external factors.
