ABOUT MAY HILL

Some residents, particularly dog walkers, may have noticed a bit of work taking place at the Scouts Field behind the Vil-lage Hall. The site is being developed as a multi functional, multi user space, which will include the Scouts, Barnstorm Youth Theatre and some private camping and venue hire from April to October.

To this end, we are building a new ameni-ties area using sweet chestnut coppice from Huntley estate. The site will remain as a rustic, off grid, outdoor location, so any events, new and old, will have to be appropriate scale and character for a qui-et countryside location.

For more information about the goings on at that space, email [email protected] or visit May Hill Wood-lands facebook page.

Before May Hill Village had mains electricity, the Village Hall Purchased

its own generator to power the lighting. Eric Harding and Tony Wake-

field had to build an extension to house the Lister engine that would

charge up two large batteries. This was a considerable financial invest-

ment, so it was decided to run an auction to raise money. This was such

a success that the auctions continued as a regular event long after the

Hill was connected to the national grid in 1958. Roger Cox
