About Me

• My name is Bethany Kintz, and it is an honor to be your child’s Language Arts teacher this year.

• This is my second year at Bogle; last year I taught the Read 180 program.

• I hold a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, and Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Spanish.

• I have worked in the research field for reading instruction, which has helped me to gain a better understanding of the dynamic needs of all learners.

• Prior to that, I worked as a Corporate Buyer for Kroger and as a Design Specialist for Shaw Industries.

• These experiences have allowed me to diversify my understanding of the professional world and to gain valuable perspective about the skills students need to successfully perform in the real world.

Instructional Platform• The 7th grade Language Arts curriculum is based on the

Common Core State Standards Initiative, which is ultimately aimed at providing students with a high-quality education.

• The framework for my curriculum is based on mastery of both conceptual and procedural knowledge.

• It is my goal that by the end the year, students have mastered the skills in reading, writing and speaking, needed to be successful in school and in society as they go forward.

• I have designed the curriculum thematically, so that students are exposed to a variety of texts that can be anchored to essential concepts, themes or ideas.

• This way, the students can engage in a meaningful way with the literature, during discussion, and in their writing.

• I also emphasize independent reading, because this is a sustainable way to improve literacy over the course of a student’s lifetime.

 

Common Core• I am committed to helping your child grow as a reader, writer and thinker in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable, so that they can meet with academic success for years to come.

• We have adopted the Common Core Standards • The overall objective is to increase literacy across the

content areas, so that students are gaining the skills necessary to meet the dynamic demands of college and career readiness.  Throughout the year, these standards will be the foundation upon which the lessons and activities are built, as students work toward mastery.
