• What does this mean?

Practice your signature

• A signature (from Latin: signare, "to sign") is a

handwritten (and often stylized) depiction of

someone's name, nickname, or even a simple

"X" or other mark that a person writes on

documents as a proof of identity and intent.

• WHAT IS A FONT?

A FONT IS… • In traditional (before Computers)

typography (design of type) , a font is a

particular size (HEIGHT on LINE),

weight (Thickness of LINE) and style

(DESIGN OF LINE) of a typeface

(ALPHABET of DESIGN).

• In Computers-FONT is the style of the

typing.

How to measure…

• You need to measure a 3 inch by 3 inch grid

with a ruler

• ALWAYS Mark 3 times

(WHY THREE TIMES?)

• and DRAW it out! (USING RULER)

Symmetry:

• Symmetry is the identical reflection of two sides.

• In order to be symmetrical, one side of the

pattern or object is exactly the same as the

other side of the pattern or object.

Line or MIRROR Symmetry

• The simplest symmetry is Reflection Symmetry

(sometimes called Line Symmetry or Mirror

Symmetry). It is easy to recognize, because one

half is the reflection of the other half.

• the Line of Symmetry runs left-to-right

• it is not perfect symmetry, because the image is

changed a little by the lake surface

Examples of symmetry:

ROTATIONAL Symmetry

• With Rotational Symmetry, the image is rotated

(around a central point) so that it appears 2 or

more times. How many times it appears is called

the Order.

• Snakes: Snakes was a woodcut. Snakes has

rotational symmetry of order 3, comprising a

single wedge-shaped image which is repeated

three times in a circle. It was made in July of

1969.

• He apparently taught himself.

• Escher had poor grades, but he drew pictures very well.

• Even though Escher could draw well, he had bad grades and failed grades in elementary and secondary school.

What is a tessellation…

• A tessellation is the tiling of a

plane using one or more geometric

shapes, called tiles, with no

overlaps and no gaps.

• Tessellations were used by the

Sumerians (about 4000 BC) in

building wall decorations formed

by patterns of clay tiles.[1]

•Stippling Stippling is creating tone with clusters of dots,

these can be applied with a technical pen or

fountain pen, which will give a uniform tone.

• The action of stippling is achieved by a gentle

tapping motion.
