Key Benefits of SteelSteel has long been the standard in the industry as a sound building material. According to the Steel Framing Alliance, there are many reasons why steel framing has come to the forefront as one of the best and most attractive building materials for residential and commercial construction. Steel is a superior construction material:

Highest strength-to-weight ratio of any building material

100% recyclable

68% industry recycling rate

Non-combustible — does not burn nor contribute fuel to the spread of a fire

Inorganic — will not rot, warp, split, crack or creep

Dimensionally stable — does not expand or contract with moisture content

Consistent material quality — produced in strict accordance with national standards, no regional variations

Key Benefits of EPS As a material that has been used in the building and construction industry for more than 50 years, EPS is a best-in-class building material:

Superior insulation

Sound dampening

Engineered to reduce smoke and flame spread

Does not enable mold, mildewand moisture

Company Overview

Accelerated Building Technologies, LLC. is a dynamic partnership created by two industry-leading companies:

Dietrich Metal Framing, a Worthington Industries Company, and NOVA Chemicals. The venture combines

Dietrich’s expertise in cold-formed steel framing with NOVA Chemicals’ expertise in expandable polystyrene

(EPS) insulation technology. Utilizing the talent, resources and knowledge of both companies, a joint venture

was formed to develop cost-effective and energy-efficient building technologies that improve both the building

quality and performance while streamlining and simplifying the building process.

Why This Innovation

Builders today are faced with more challenges than ever before:

• Tighter labor pool of skilled framers • Growing concerns about mold

• More restrictive building codes • Damage from insect infestation

• Increased needs for energy efficiency • Increased insurance risks

• Higher customer expectations for quality, efficiency and durability

According to the NAHB Research Center, builders are looking at new products that will help reduce construction

cycle time and help reduce labor costs. The graph below shows the results of this newly published survey.

Additionally, when Builders were asked what they are going to do to increase sales, more than 60% indicated

that they will be adopting innovative construction practices, products or materials.

With the development of the accel-E wall panel system, Accelerated Building Technologies has created a

cost-effective, energy-efficient and structurally superior building alternative to conventional wood framing,

sheathing and insulation.

Product Overview

The accel-E wall panel system combines the strength and performance of cold-formed steel framing with

the superior insulation properties of expanded polystyrene (EPS) using the exclusive Plastbau® manufacturing

process. All steel used in the accel-E wall panel system is galvanized to industry standards to prevent rust.

This innovative technology virtually eliminates the transfer of temperature from one side of the framing

component to the other side. The result is a thermally efficient, high-performance building technology

that is strong, lightweight, energy efficient and economical.

Key Benefits

Cost Effective

The accel-E wall panel system can significantly reduce both the

amount and required skill level of on-site labor, lower overhead and

shorten construction cycles. And because the entire system is pre-cut for

your job, you pay only for what you need — with minimal waste —

and eliminate disposal costs.

Faster Installation Time

With framing, sheathing and insulation consolidated into a single

step in the accel-E wall panel system, one crew can handle the entire

job quickly and economically. Structures come together more efficiently

with factory-cut window and door openings and are closed in faster,

so construction can continue even in the most adverse conditions. The

electrical and plumbing trades will benefit from the efficiency of the pre-

punched openings on the interior side of the accel-E wall panel system.

Energy Efficient

The accel-E wall panel system lowers heating and cooling costs.

Structures built with the accel-E system provide consistent and

superior comfort with substantially less energy loss, because drafts

and air infiltration are virtually eliminated.

Note: HVAC systems should include sufficient air exchange throughout the structure.

Reduces Construction Defects and Callbacks

As wood framing dries, it shrinks and twists, often resulting in nail pops

in drywall, bowed walls, warped or buckled siding. Incorporating two

industry-leading materials — steel and EPS — the accel-E wall panel system ensures consistently straight walls, eliminating the construction

defects and callbacks associated with wood.

Green

Environmentally friendly, accel-E wall panels are made from

recycled materials and are themselves 100% recyclable. The accel-E wall panel system is a contributor to obtaining LEED points.

Fire Resistance

Unlike wood, steel is non-combustible and will not fuel fire. The EPS

used along with the steel in the accel-E wall panel system offers

a Class 1 fire-resistance rating — the best attainable rating for a

combustible material.

Resists Mold, Termites, Other Insects and Rodents

The wood used in traditional framing is a natural food source for both

mold and termites. Made from non-organic steel and EPS, the accel-E wall panels aren’t conducive to mold growth, offer no nutritive value

to termites, other insects or rodents, and won’t rot or decay.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. 3
