About the consultant Lily Cakir ICT Education Specialist – Expanding Learning Horizons Lily is a former secondary school teacher from Sydney who has extensive experience integrating technology into her teaching and learning strategies. Her background in teaching Humanities and English enabled her to work in various committees that support and improve the literacy abilities of students, by defining a set of literacy standards across various curriculum areas. In particular, Lily has implemented strategies for ESL and Special Needs students, whilst developing coursework that uses ICT to assist teacher and student understanding of the specific area taught. She has led professional learning courses on many aspects of ICT use in learning – including the use of Web 2.0 tools – and has been involved in the introduction of specific software, laptops and Interactive Whiteboards into school environments. Lily Cakir ICT Education Specialist – Expanding Learning Horizons

Lily is a former secondary school teacher from Sydney who has extensive experience integrating technology into her teaching and learning strategies. Her background in teaching Humanities and English enabled her to work in various committees that support and improve the literacy abilities of students, by defining a set of literacy standards across various curriculum areas.

Natalie CartwrightICT Education Specialist – Expanding Learning Horizons

Natalie Cartwright is an innovative teacher, with extensive experience in the Gifted Education sector and ICT school support. She has had an integral role in the development of digital classrooms and was part of the team responsible for the implementation of online learning at her previous school.

Natalie has supported teachers while ICT is integrated into their curricula. This has included planning oversight and running school-wide professional development. She has also developed mentoring programs within schools to ensure teachers can participate in professional learning communities, especially those associated with assessment.

Ultimately, Natalie’s professional goal is to see students using and developing ICT tools on a daily basis. She also wants to see teachers use ICT to provide ever more engaging and enriching experiences.

Amanda FramptonICT Education Specialist – Expanding Learning Horizons

Amanda has 7 years’ experience as a primary school teacher. She has always led by example when implementing ICT into the curriculum, creating engaging and innovative digital learning environments for her students. During her time as ICT Coordinator, Amanda inspired and enabled staff to effectively integrate ICT into all aspects of their curriculum.

She supported teachers on their journey to acquire departmental ICT qualifications and managed the implementation of Interactive Whiteboards and other technologies in the classrooms. More recently, Amanda has been working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of work that meet both the requirements of the Australian National Curriculum and realise the potential of ICT as a tool to facilitate learning.

Amanda believes that through the integration of ICT into the classroom, teaching will move from a focus of imparting knowledge to knowledge acquisition. This will equip learners with the necessary skills to be active participants in an evolving digital world.

Chris HaydenICT Education Specialist – Expanding Learning Horizons

Chris has extensive teaching and leadership experience in schools across Australia, New Zealand and the USA. He has been a Department Head, a Technology Advisor, a Director of Information Services at a large Secondary School, an Instructional Technology Specialist and, more recently, a Head of Secondary in Queensland.

Chris has been recognised as an innovator of technology for his effective curriculum design and engagement, as well as assisting schools with strategic IT planning and implementation. He has been a keynote speaker and workshop presenter to Principal groups, and national and international conferences. He has also directed an ICT teacher training contract for three years to over 300 teachers.

Chris loves teaching and has a passionate interest in engaging students with technology for effective learning outcomes, especially within a busy curriculum. He is a textbook author with specialist interests in Maths, Geography, English, Photography, Art and School Leadership.

Natalie MorrisseyICT Education Specialist – Expanding Learning Horizons

Natalie Morrissey is a former teacher who worked in Doncaster, Victoria. As an ICT Coordinator, Natalie was responsible for the integration and management of ICT into all aspects of the curriculum. She oversaw the implementation of a collegial teaching program, coaching teachers in how to use interactive whiteboards and other classroom technologies.

Natalie believes it is essential for teachers to incorporate technology into their learning techniques, as this is now fundamental to student learning. She believes that teachers need to provide students with contemporary learning environments that foster rich experiences, creating meaningful learning opportunities for every student.

Travis SmithNational Manager – Expanding Learning Horizons

Travis Smith has over 10 years’ classroom experience, teaching Psychology, Geography, History and English. As Director of Computing at Frankston High School, Victoria, Travis managed the very successful notebook program. In 2006, Travis was appointed Assistant Principal at Frankston High School, with overall responsibility for human resources and school-based technology.

In 2009, Travis left Frankston High School to become National Manager of independent advisory company, Expanding Learning Horizons. The company works with schools across Australia to help implement 1-to-1 programs. It also develops and runs effective professional learning programs for teachers within schools.

Travis has lectured at Monash University for many years in the Education Faculty and has presented at conferences worldwide on the effective use of technology in the classroom.

Sean Tierney Innovative Schools Program Manager – Microsoft Australia

Sean has over 12 years’ experience working with schools to lead and drive change management, and leverage the potential of technology to improve student learning. He began his career in South Australia where he worked as a primary and secondary school teacher, Head of Department and Deputy-Principal.

Leaving South Australia, Sean worked in the senior leadership team of the Queensland Department of Education eLearning Branch, where he managed transformational learning initiatives. While with the department, he co-authored The 21 Steps to 1-to-1 Success with Bruce Dixon (AALF) and developed two programs: Technology, Furniture and Architecture, and Transformational Learning.

Sean is now responsible for a number of Microsoft’s professional development programs in Australian schools. He also manages the Australian Innovative Schools program.

Joanna Walker ICT Education Specialist

Joanna Walker has nine years’ experience as a classroom teacher, Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) Coordinator and Year Level Coordinator. While working at Forest Lake College, Queensland in 2007, Joanna helped win the school a place on an ISQ* Australian Quality Teacher Program. Her project focused on how students use tablet PCs in the classroom, and included adapting specialist software by independent developer, HeuLab, for Australian classrooms.

As a result of her involvement in this project, in 2008 Joanna joined HeuLab as a Business Manager in Australia. She worked with schools and other organisations to promote technology integration to educators.

In 2010, Joanna joined the Expanding Learning Horizons team as their ICT Education Specialist. The company works with schools across Australia to help implement 1-to-1 programs. It also develops and runs effective professional learning programs for teachers within schools.
