About the Organizers was The EAST (Environmental Advisory for Sustainable Trust) founded by Dr. G. Paramasivan on 29 December 2010. The EAST is an th internationally renowned, self-governing institution, multidisciplinary center for advanced research and training in the social sciences, widely recognized as a center of excellence in India known for its cutting-edge research in socio economic development, exhaustive training programmes and public policy concern. It is registered under Trust Act, 1882 with NGO Unique Registration ID 'TN/2017/0120483'. The EAST is located in Palayamkottai, the “Oxford of South India”, which is easily accessible by road and Rail and 40 kms from Thoothukudi Airport. is one of the various social science The Department of Commerce departments operating at , Manomaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) is a dynamic institution of higher learning, set in a rural milieu of southern Tamil Nadu, with a campus spread of 550 acres. The University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu as a teaching-cum-affiliating University on 7 th September, 1990 to cater the long-felt needs of the people of the three southern most districts of Tamil Nadu viz., Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari.To meet the challenges of emerging scenario in the 21 st century and to exploit the new opportunities in the field of Commerce, the department of Commerce was established in the year 2006-2007 and it is one of the emerging departments in the University. The Department has the legitimate claim and pride of being the premier institution in Tirunelveli for course curriculum development, teaching and researches in Commerce discipline. The rapid growth of the Department of Commerce is reflected in its expansion as well as novelty in its academic programmes. is one of the oldest Colleges in South India. It was St. John's College established in the year 1878 by Christian Missionaries and Rev. H. Schaffter was the first Principal of St. John's College. At Present St. John's College in run by CSI, Tirunelveli Diocese. Now this College is functioning with 9 regular Departments and 10 Self financing departments. All 9 regular departments are upgraded as Research Centres. Nearly 4,500 Students are studying (both male & female) in this College. Dr. S. John Kennady Vethanathan is the present Principal. Internal Quality Assurance Cell is one of the Key cells of St. John's College. It organizes many motivational, orientation, skill development programmes, Competitive examination coaching and workshops to enhance the teaching learning process. Dr. S. Arul Gnanam, Associate Professor of Physics, Co-ordinates the IQAC. About the Programme The institutions of higher learning in India are facing crucial challenges in creating, nurturing and maintaining the level of quality research especially in social science. The need of the hour is to develop a sound methodological base of research among the budding educationists and researchers to cope up with future challenges. To operationalize this vision, there is a need to train, reorient and reactivate the research scholars in the social science on research methodology. Thus this workshop is an effort to enrich the academicians, research scholars in social science on research methodology. The workshop will not only provide theoretical inputs of the research methodology but, also expose the participants to the practical aspects of research in social sciences and other research related problems in which the research scholars confront during their research work. The workshop will address the fundamental knowledge about research and methods of conducting research that includes both quantitative and qualitative research designs. This Ten-day International workshop is aimed at providing researchers and academicians with a comprehensive learning of econometrics tools and report writing in research. The workshop modules are designed in such a way which would enable the participants to gather practical training using live data. This course is designed to prove hands on experience in econometric tools and techniques that can be used for date driven decision- making using real case studies. The workshop will be a theory lecture (30%), hands on training experience (50%) and result discussions (20%). Objectives of the workshop The objective of this course to pay attention to the most important dimension of research i.e., Research Methodology. It will enable the Researchers to develop the most appropriate methodology for their Research Studies. The mission of the course is to impart research skills to the beginners and help them to improve the quality of Research by the existing researchers. The programme is designed for academicians, researchers and practitioners who wish to use data analysis tools and models for their decision making and research process. To enable the participants, in defining research problem, developing an approach to research problem and selection of suitable research design. To impart capabilities for formulation and testing of hypothesis based on the nature of research. To comprehend appropriateness of statistical software packages for analyzing research data. To enable the participants to understand report writing and writing research proposals. To make aware the participants about latest trends in social science research discipline. Eligibility The Faculty Members and Ph.D Research Scholars from Social Science discipiline in any foreign/ Indian universities/ institutions are eligible to apply for the workshop.
