Continuing the sustained efforts to provide a platform to faculty members

and scholars of Strategic Management faculty and scholars to share their

research work, focused discussion on a topic of contemporary significance,

share and finalise case/ course material developed, benefit from highly ex-

perienced industry experts’ insights on a topic of critical significance, the

Strategic Management Forum along with the Indian Institute of Foreign

Trade is organizing its 18th Convention at Indian Institute of Foreign

Trade, New Delhi from December 17th – 19th 2015.

The Convention will have four major components

1. A Conference on “Managing Challenges of Protectionism in Global

Business”

The continuing raise of Asia in the past year, largely accounted by India and

China along with the problems of EU and US have started posing new chal-

lenges to the global business. The movement of capital from south to North

and also the huge growth in South-South transactions are heralding a new

era and halt the Hub-and-Spoke model of world economy with the OECD

countries as a hub and the emerging economies as the spokes. The World

Bank’s growth chart has already projected a growth rate of 7.5% this year

for India, to surpass Chinese growth. Growth in South Asia is expected to

continue around 7% this year. The raising problems in Arab and African

states are further increasing the importance of emerging economies in the

global business order. The emergence of multilateralism and regionalism has

started posing challenges of regionalised protection in various formats.

Though the global business is trying to address such challenges through

global value chains, the challenges of neo-protectionism remain.

Given such challenges in global business ,

The conference is expected to address such challenges of protectionism and using such protectionism as an opportunity for global business in their strategies, throwing new lights on -

(i) The capital and trade flows of south-south and south-north in shaping the nature of business,

(ii) The changing roles of states, support institutions and other regulatory bodies in shaping the industry landscape,

(iii) Participation through Global Value Chains and the business challenges

to the roles in the Global Value Chains.
