Elite Cardiology Solutions Addresses Sudden Cardiac Deaths

FOUNDED IN 2012, S.C.A.R.F. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating people about the signs and prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death/Arrest. S.C.A.R.F. stands for “Sudden Cardiac-death Awareness Research Foundation”. Sudden Cardiac Death is the leading cause of death within the United States. It’s responsible for approximately 450,000 deaths per year…more than most major cancers combined! Despite the staggering numbers of deaths that sudden cardiac arrest causes each year, it is not a high-profile killer. Many instances of sudden cardiac arrest occur without immediate warning, with minimal or easily overlooked symptoms. However, what most people (even healthcare providers) don’t realize is that there are plenty of signs that point towards future cardiac problems. In addition to the informational resources and training we provide, we are unique as an organization in that we also treat patients ourselves. We are on the front line with issues of heart disease. We understand what challenges our patients must overcome. To learn more, visit www.scarfnfp.org.

DR. PAUL NGUYEN, DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF S.C.A.R.F.Dr. Paul Nguyen is a board-certified cardiologist. After graduating from medical school in 1997, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Chicago. From there, he attended the prestigious Mid-America Heart Institution in Kansas City and received his fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology (Heart Rhythm Disorders). In 2008 Dr. Nguyen founded Elite Cardiology LLC, where he practices Cardiovascular Medicine. In correspondence with Elite Cardiology, Dr. Nguyen collectively works and consults with patients at Presence Health Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Presence St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, and at Kishwaukee Community Hospital located in DeKalb.

Dr. Rubina Nguyen, advanced trained in general and cosmetic dentistry, is the Co-founder of S.C.A.R.F. and Director of S.C.A.R.F. Mentorship and Career Guidance Program to bring awareness about cardiovascular issues. She’s currently serving as the director of the organization’s Mentorship and Career Guidance Program.

Liv!BARRINGTON BORN AND RAISED LIV, a teacup Morkie, enjoys the spotlight and since we last reported on her fashion and acting career one year ago, things have moved quickly for both her and her owner. Recent opportunities for the highly-trained dog include a presence in Harper’s Bazaar, Daily Mail, Fox Network, and her stories have headlined the opening pages of Yahoo and AOL. Liv has walked, or been carried, down the runways at the New York and Los Angeles Fashion Weeks with top models. Guess who steals the show?

Liv travels with her owner from coast to coast, sitting or sleeping on her lap and now there is talk of a trip to Australia for a chidlren’s book convention. “Liv is a pro! She travels well and never gets seasick,” her owner said. “Every day she amazes me.” Liv has a big personality and she lights up when she knows “she’s on”. While some owners push their pets to perform, Liv knows what she wants, and she embraces it. She is truly a show dog. In fact, it can be hard getting through an airport, because many people think Liv is a toy as she rides atop a rolling suitcase and they stop to ask about the star. “It’s her teddy bear face, and that she always wears an outfit,” her owner says.

Today, Liv can do 60 separate tricks, or moves, and can also chain together several commands which makes her ideal for television or movie roles. For example, Liv can move through these commands—go right, sit pretty, and wave—with ease. Her owner stresses that all training by her professional coach is by positive reinforcement.

Liv recently returned from a set in Miami, and has been on location in New York, LA, and Toronto. But now she has a casting agent who will be finding TV and movie roles for her growing career. To top it off, Liv has 400 pieces of clothing and accessories in her own little closet.

You can follow Liv on Instagram and watch for her at local events such as at Deer Park Town Center and possibly events in downtown Barrington.
