In other words, the medianhousehold income decreased for households and individuals at the high school drop-outs andgraduate, some-college, and an Associates degree level. Income did, however, increase for thosewith a Bachelor's degree or more. The following table shows the median household income
according to the educational attainment of the householder. All data is in 2003 dollars and onlyapplies to householders whose householder is aged twenty-five or older. The highest and lowestpoints of the median household income are presented in bold face.

1-11 Five Themes World City due next week.
Current Event: Saudi Arabia
The Mission Celebration
Do celebrations reflect physical or cultural geography?Carnival or Mardi Gras
Followers of the Roman Catholic religion in Italy started the tradition of
holding a wild costume festival right before the first day of Lent. Because
Catholics are not supposed to eat meat during Lent, they called their
festival, carnevale which meansto put away the meat.As time passed,
carnivals in Italy became quite famous; and in fact the practice spread to
France, Spain, and all the Catholic countries in Europe. Then as the French,
Spanish, and Portuguese began to take control of the Americas and other
parts of the world, they brought with them their tradition of celebrating
carnival.
Penance: Describe Rodrigos Penitence.
Why? How Long? Was he forgiven? Who forgives? What had Rodrigo done to the Guarani?
Why did Rodrigo cry and laugh at the top of the falls?
What is Penance?
1. a punishment undergone in token of penitence for sin.
2. a penitential discipline imposed by church authority.
3. a sacrament, as in the Roman Catholic Church, consisting in a confession of sin, made with
sorrow and with the intention of amendment, followed by the forgiveness of the sin.
Rodrigo accepted as a novice Jesuit priest.

Why were black slaves brought to the Americas from West Africa?
SMALL POX IN THE AMERICAS
Using an estimate of approximately 30 million people (native Americans) in 1492 (including
15 million in the Aztec Empire and six million in the Inca Empire), the lowest estimates give a
death toll due from disease of an astonishing 80% by the end of the 17th century (eight million
people in 1650).

Plantation Agriculture Requiring Cheap Labor
Sugar -- Around the eighth century A.D., Arab traders introduced sugar from
South Asia to the Mediterranean, Mesopotamia, Egypt, North Africa, and Spain. It was
among the early crops brought to the Americas by the Spanish from their fields in the
Canary Islands, and the Portuguese from their fields in the Madeira Island.
Coffee -- From Ethiopia, coffee was said to have spread to Egypt and Yemen. The
earliest credible evidence of either coffee drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appears
in the middle of the fifteenth century, in the Sufi monasteries ofYemen. By the 16th
century, it had reached the rest of the Middle East, Persia, Turkey, and northern Africa.
Coffee then spread to Balkans, Italy, and to the rest of Europe, to Indonesia, and to the
Americas.
BananaSoutheast Asian farmers first domesticated bananas.
Pirates and Rum --
Caribbean captains took advantage of a cheaper and more readily available source of
liquid sold by local sugar cane plantations called "kil devil" a foul tasting by-product of
sugar cane processing which later became known as rum. In fiction, Robert Louis
Stevenson gave rum to history thanks to Captain Billy Bones in the book, Treasure
Island, the alcoholic beverage most associated with pirates is rum.
