The works included in this catalog are “small” oilpaintings, executed in 2006, as I became interestedin expressing visual ideas devoid of naturalisticreferences, and simply for the pure satisfaction ofusing color, brushwork and line as the governingcompositional base. Only at the end the worksbecame “bigger” and somehow freer from the originalunderlying grid that launched the series. PattyVincent, a dear friend in NC, suggested I give theworks titles when I showed her some reproductions,and after I followed her suggestion the titlesbrought the paintings, and myself, back into thenaturalistic realm. Small and Bigger are of courserelative adjectives in the context of the resultingpainting, insofar as one can interpret them, scale-wise, once reproduced. They are paintings, period.
