Alan D’Souza, Sales and Business Development Manager – Middle East, CANUSA participates in an interactive discussion during MEPIPES 2010
ADCO’s Assistant General Manager, Mohamed Juma and Claire Pallen, Director, Middle East Operations during the 10th Anniversary ceremony at MEPIPES 2010
Dear colleague,
The history of pipelines can be traced back to Egyptian, Greek, Persian and Roman cultures. Our ancestors used stone, copper, earthenware, bronze and metal pipes to transport and distribute water. In China, natural gas was transmitted through bamboo pipes over 2,500 years ago.
We have seen oil transported in wooden barrels, basic oil lines and the development of complex pipeline networks increasingly closer to modern standards. Pluto, the fi rst undersea oil pipeline, proved that nothing was impossible in pipeline engineering.
So what has changed since then?
I would like to quote Phil Hopkins, Technical Director at Penspen, “if you laid the Canadian pipeline system end to end, it would extend 17 times around the world.”
The immensity of the pipeline industry is precisely the reason for us to meet in Abu Dhabi, for the 11th edition of our Oil and Gas Pipelines in the Middle East Meeting.
The 2011 programme offers a fresh approach to strategic and technical aspects of pipeline projects, operations and engineering. Our aim is to offer you a truly effective learning experience, while benefi tting from unprecedented networking opportunities.
On behalf of The Energy Exchange, we look forward to welcoming you in Abu Dhabi to MEPIPES 2011.
