Career/Transfer Center – Mike Igoe

We are implementing a new Job Board with the Jobspeaker software that we will be switching to starting

Monday, October 22, with full transition complete by November 2, 2018.

Students and faculty have caught wind of Mary Watts’ presence in our Career/Transfer Center. She’s been

on 46 classroom visits and helped 84 students already this Fall in the CTC with Resume & Job Seeking

appointments.

We are still seeking men’s clothing donations for the Clothing Closet that is now up and running, as was

announced on October 8.

Transfer Day is on November 8, 2018, and we have 14 guests confirmed (see attached flier).

Counseling Area Update – Elizabeth Pfleging:

Case Management System: Counselors are working with students, getting educational plans into Starfish,

visiting classrooms and meeting with faculty in our newly assigned areas. We are continuing to massage

this new case management system and are looking for opportunities to meet with faculty in our areas, as

well as develop connections with our specific caseload of students. Please see the attached flyer for

updates to the assignments, as we have added our adjuncts to support specific areas as well.

Transfer Day: Transfer Day is happening November 8. CSU and UC applications for Fall 2019 are due by

November 30. We are also starting the fall outreach season with College Nights and high school specific

recruiting for CCAP, Middle College and next year’s Promise Students (application live on website now!).

PTK: Dree and Mike have resurrected PTK – an honor society focused on developing student leaders and

helping them with their long-term educational goals. Already they have 27 members and all of their

student officer positions filled. Every eligible student was emailed with an invitation to participate, and

those eligibility criteria are having a GPA of 3.5 and at least 12 completed units.

Mid Semester Events happening on campus The Welcome Week committee is fostering a mid-semester week of events for the campus, including a Foundation hosted dinner for our Columbia College Promise students on Tues Oct 23, the ASCC hosted Fall Festival on Wed Oct 24, Mid-Semester Madness at the Library on Thurs Oct 25, and Pack the Pavilion Volleyball game on Friday, Oct 26. Hope you will join in on the festivities and promote them to your

students (see attached flyers for more info)!

DSPS Area Update – Sean Osborn:

Nothing reported.

EOPS Area Update – Matt Fox:

Enrollment: Of the 276 students who began the semester with EOPS, 271 (98%) have successfully

completed their Educational Plan appointment and can officially be counted as “EOPS students.” Our

enrollment represents the largest Fall enrollment in 10+ years. For comparison, Fall semester EOPS

enrollment has increased from 134 students in 2013-14 to 271 students in 2018-19; a 102% increase over

the past 5 years! We are also very pleased to have accepted 15 students into the CARE program. Fall

semester CARE enrollment had dropped to six students in 2016-17 and we are pleased that collaboration

with CalWORKs and the College childcare center has led to increased enrollment.

Recruitment: Targeted outreach has begun as we prepare to accept new students for the Spring

semester. We accept students on a rolling basis and anticipate accepting approximately 50 new EOPS

students in the Spring. Thank you for continuing to refer students to our program!

EOPS Conference: Lisa, Tracey and Stephanie will be attending the upcoming EOPS conference October

29th-31st. For the fourth consecutive year, Columbia College has been asked to present a workshop. This

year the workshop focus is “Visualizing digital student files on your campus.” Additionally, Matt F. is in the

1st year of a 2-year term as the Vice President for the statewide EOPS association and will be attending the

executive board meeting the Sunday prior to the conference.

Special Programs Advisory Board meeting: Please join us on Wednesday November 7 from 3-5pm in the

MPR as we host our semi-annual Advisory Board Meeting.

Family Leave: Matt Fox will be on family leave from October 22 until the beginning of the Spring

semester. Many thanks to Steph, Brian and Jill for adjusting their schedules to accommodate the

workload. Additionally, Dree Thomas will be working overload for 60 hours to fill the counseling

need. Many thanks, all!

Mid-Semester Madness - One of the upcoming mid-semester events on campus is Mid-Semester Madness

in Tamarack Hall. Stop by Thursday, October 25 from 6-9 for studious fun in the Library and AAC!

Oral History Series - The website that hosts our Oral History Series collection of local interviews just went

through a refresh to improve functionality making this a great time to take a look. If you have not done so

in a while: http://apps.gocolumbia.edu/ohs. Get this: last week someone I met on a hike told me they had

used one of the interviews to find gold!

Mental Health Services – Tamara Oxford:

Suicide Awareness: The recent safeTALK training was a great success. Thank you to all who supported

this event. Anticipate Mental Health First Aid training in the Spring semester. Dates to be determined.

Please welcome the biggest new-hire class of Student Ambassadors we have had in at least 3 years--

Xochitl Martinez, Mandy Bruce-Moore, Megan Nesset, Rhett Oellrich, Halley Ellard, Brooklyn Keever, and

to provide the best possible customer service helping students who visit the Manzanita building feel

welcome, engaged, and capable of success!

Courtney Sutton will be returning to work on October 29, 2018, and Torri Keever will return to Admissions
