A Message from The Superintendent

Dear Friends:

Each year, our students continue to achieve at the highest lev-els. Graduating seniors earned over $12 million in scholarships, 75% earned an Industry Based Certificate making them more competitive in the workforce, and nearly 200 earned college credit while at CHS.

There were plenty of achievements out-side of the classroom as well. Our district was recognized by AdvancED, a national third party accreditation firm, for being “among the best districts in the nation.” Once again and for over twenty years, our financial department received certificates of excellence from several finan-cial agencies, and particular programs, such as Special Olympics, received state-wide recognition.

Looking forward, we are determined to continue to nurture the children of this parish both inside and outside the classroom. A heavy emphasis on rigorous classroom instruction that provides the foundation for students to be college and career ready will continue to be a top priority, while students’ interests outside of the classroom will also be fostered. Such interests include: • Our second grade swim program will continue to provide all students throughout the district the opportunity to learn how to swim. • All students will have the opportunity to experience our school district’s state-of-the-art planetarium and interactive science labs at the Maumus Center, which was also opened to the public this past summer. • Performing arts, musical programs, and athletics will remain an integral part of each of our schools’ offerings.

Our continued success is dependent on our partnership with our most valuable resource, our families. We look forward to collab-orating with you as we work together to develop your child over the school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, principal, or the staff at central office. I also encourage you to utilize our online parent portal to stay up-to-date on your child’s grades.

With your support, 2017-2018 promises to be another successful year.

Sincerely,Doris VoitierSuperintendent

What is the school uniform?

Additional Dress Code Guidelines

Where are uniforms purchased?

Dress for Success

St. Bernard Parish Schools believe that proper dress codes fos-ter school environments that are more conducive to learning. A student’s manner of dress reflects his or her attitude toward self, family, school, and community. As such, all students must report to school on August 7th in their official school uniform.

If you have any additional questions regarding the dress code for your child, please contact your child’s principal.

While we all know that going to school is important, sometimes children are absent. Please read carefully our district’s atten-dance policy:

• Elementary and middle school students may not be absent more than 14 days in order to receive credit for the year.

• High school students may not be absent more than 7 days per semester.

• Students are regarded as habitually absent or habitually tar-dy after the fifth unexcused absence or fifth unexcused oc-currence of being tardy within any school semester.

• If a child is absent due to illness or accident, medical certif-icates signed by the attending physicians must be presented within five days after a student returns to school.

• Please note that St. Bernard Parish Schools are obligated to report any student who is habitually absent or tardy to the juve-nile court of St. Bernard Parish as a truant child.
