Paraphrasing…
A good paraphrase should
• have the same meaning as the original• but not sound like the original• only have 3-4 words the same as the original
Paraphrasing is not easy…it takes practice!
Steps in paraphrasing…
Read the original carefully
Close the book/screen window while you write your own explanation
Check your sentence against the original
Cite the source
Time to practice
• Take brief notes on the following:– What happened– Where– When– Who– Why it’s significant
