Dear Mr. Blik:
I would like to apply to the position of Graphic Designer at Blik Design Agency. I have recently graduated from California State University, San Bernardino with a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design and Marketing. With this degree I have gained knowledge in the main areas of graphic design and marketing. My graphic design knowledge includes Typography, Advertising, Corporate Identity and Packaging.
I have gained even more experience in graphic design by complet-ing a yearlong internship at Santos Manuel Student Union. Under general supervision of the staff graphic designer, I designed posters for various events on campus. Additionally I designed banners and small fl yers. At the same time I was also working on freelance projects designing brochures and logos for student organizations on campus.
Also, as I previously stated with my major, I have completed a variety of marketing courses, which ranged from Consumer Behavior to Advertising Campaign. Those courses are essential to any graphic designer that plans to work on a design agency like yours. Those courses have helped me understand the process in the creation of an advertising campaign that eventually helps me execute a better design. One example is a project I did for my Advertising class along with my colleagues creating an advertising campaign for the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Arts. We started by identifying the target market, and then we did surveys and gathered all the data. We also completed and developed a complete advertising campaign that was even under the budget limit given to us by the museum director
9Cont.
As stated in your company’s website, your company takes part in the process from analyzing the target audience all the way to the execution of the design. The courses I have taken at CSUSB have helped me understand and be part of the process that go behind an advertising campaign. I will not just bring latest design trends to the company, but also will bring my knowledge of marketing.
The education that I have received here at CSUSB perfectly fi ts your company’s vision. Not only I have also taken the required coursesnecessary to take on any challenging projects that your company faces, but my freelance experience will speak for itself when I start working and meeting the clients.
I’m looking forward to meet with you personally so you can look at my portfolio. Please feel free to contact me at 760.693.6481 if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Manuel Lopez
11Statement
Every design has an objective, as a designer my goal is to fi nd the most appropriate solution to reach that objective. Each project I have worked on, I start by doing extensive research on the client and the target audience. This leads me to come up with diff erentsolutions, but only one will work. The way I make the decision on the fi nal design is by taking into consideration what the client is asking for and what I feel is the appropriate for the target audience. This process it might be stressful for some designer, but in my case I enjoy every part of it; not only I enjoy it, but I also look for it. I personally think that the process is as important as the fi nal product of a design.

The purpose of this project was to create promotional items for a museum, in this case the Museum of Arts and Design. I decided to create a 11x17 poster to promote the exhibition and also designed a brochure to advertise current programs as well as the operational hours of the museum.
