Pastorrsquos Corner Dear Parishioners

We receive compliments ALL THE TIME about our

amazing and dynamic Bereavement Team The ministry is headed

by Diane Hernandez with Nini Rodriguez as her very loyal sidekick

Sue Stiles also helps out along with Carmen Cuaresma Families share

with us how much a difference these people make in our lives They meet with the

families to discuss the planning of the funeral here at Holy Family They listen They

encourage And they are the light of Christ to all those who have lost a loved one

They help coordinate the funeral Masses at Holy Family In addition they plan the

annual big All Souls celebration commemorating the deceased who have died in the

previous year They are a blessing to the parish and they are all definitely on the

way to sainthood If you see Diane or Nini or Sue or Carmen please be sure to give

them a holy hug and let them know how much you appreciate their service to our

parish

Again Father Augustino Torres CFR is headed this way for our annual

parish mission Mark the date March 13-15 The topic is ldquoNo Pain No Gain The

Cost of Discipleshiprdquo We begin each night at 7 PM Each conference finishes

around 830 PM Childcare is provided Spread the word Renew your spiritual life

this Lent Take advantage of the opportunity Ash Wednesday is coming up on

March 1st It will be here before you know it

Are you a volunteer ldquoStudies show that volunteering reduces stress and

helps us live longer says Basil Sadiq of VolunteerMatchrdquo (From ldquoJump-Start Your

Healthy New Yearrdquo by Dana McMahan as found in the January 15 2017 Parade

magazine) Think about it Do you volunteer Do you volunteer here at Holy Family

Opportunities abound

Despite all of the anger and unrest in our county during and since the

presidential election we are blessed to be living in a safe place I was perusing an

article that I read from The Los Angeles Times in October The article was about a

federal judge who was out for a daytime jog and he was shot in the head in Mexico

City He was 37 years old He was a judge and his caseload included some of

Mexicorsquos highest profile criminal cases ldquoHe was [also] involved in legal rulings

regarding the 43 college students who disappeared in the state of Guerrero two years

agordquo Reportedly this judge Vincente Antonio Bermudez Zacarias was ldquohonest

impeccable and widely respectedrdquo Unfortunately more than a dozen priests have

also been killed across that country in the last four years

Violence abounds in our world and I believe it begins in the human heart

War aside I suppose nothing justifies the killing of another human being We as

Christians should be above that We should know better We are supposed to be a

people of justice not criminal or immoral activity We are called to a higher standard

Let us pray for ourselves that we may never become people of violence Let us pray

for this judge Vincente Antonio Bermudez Zacarias and let us pray for the many

priests and others who have been killed or criticized or harmed in any way for

standing up for justice

WEARING OUR ldquoSUNDAY BESTrdquo

Does God really care what we wear to church when we worship Probably not but our neighbors do and this is the

point God is not distracted by the young man whose pants are hanging 10 inches below his waist and whose striped

boxers are showing but the family in the pew behind him is Godrsquos attention is not diverted by the woman whose

neckline is showing off much more than her neck but the Eucharistic Minister giving her communion is Godrsquos

concentration is not broken by the people in cut-offs flip-flops and sleeveless shirts but the elderly woman sitting next

to them in the pew is God may not care what we wear to church but our neighbors do Catholic worship is never just

a ldquoMe and Jesusrdquo sort of thing it always involves community The reason we ask folks to keep quiet in church isnrsquot

because God is offended by our talking it is because our neighbors deserve a place where they can pray in silence

before and after Mass The same is true for proper dress at Mass Dressing well can assist the community in praying

wellmdashit can help alleviate distraction Dressing appropriately is a sign of respect for our Lord as well as our brothers

and sisters in Christ (The idea is to wear something more ldquospecialrdquo than the attire we wear around the house running

errands or working out in when we ldquoget readyrdquo for church)

Eucharistic Adoration

The Miracles that Come from Eucharistic Adoration [Source aleteiaorg]

Patricio Hileman the priest responsible for building Perpetual Adoration chapels all

throughout Latin America shared the touching testimony of Diego an 8-year-old Mexican

boy whose faith in the Blessed Sacrament transformed his familyrsquos reality marked by

problems related to domestic violence alcoholism and poverty

The story happened in Meacuterida the capital city of Yucataacuten Mexico right in the first chapel

of Perpetual Adoration that the Missionaries of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament

established in the city

Father Hileman told ACI Group that the little boy heard him preaching that ldquothose who are

willing to be at vigil at dawn Jesus will bless a hundred times morerdquo

ldquoI would also say that Jesus invites his friends to the Holy Hour and that he would also ask them lsquoCan not you watch

an hour with mersquordquo recalled the Argentine priest

His words made the child decide to start his vigil at 300 in the morning something that naturally caught the attention

of his mother to whom the boy explained that he would do it because ldquoI want my dad to stop drinking and that we can

no longer be poorrdquo

During the first week the mother accompanied him The second week Diego invited his father ldquoA month later they

began to participate in perpetual adoration and the father testified that he had experienced the love of Jesus and was

healedrdquo Right after that ldquohe fell in love with his wife during those holy hoursrdquo Hileman said ldquoThe father stopped

drinking and fighting with his wife and they were able to leave poverty behind Because of the faith of an 8-year-old

child a whole family was healedrdquo

This is one of several conversion testimonies that according to Hileman often happen in Perpetual Adoration chapels

an initiative of the Missionaries of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament a community he founded ldquoThe first

commandment of perpetual adoration is to allow oneself to be lsquoembracedrsquo by Jesusrdquo said Father Hileman on his visit

to Chile ldquoIt is the place where we learn to rest in the heart of Jesusrdquo

The priest explained this initiative began in 1993 in Seville

Spain when St John Paul II expressed his desire that

ldquoevery parish in the world could have a chapel of

Perpetual Adoration where Jesus could be exposed in the

Blessed Sacrament in a custody solemnly worshiped day

and night without interruptionrdquo Hileman also recalled that

ldquoSt John Paul II spent 6 hours of adoration a day wrote

documents while in front of the exposed Blessed

Sacrament and would spend all night in adoration once a

week That is the secret of the saints that is the secret of

the Church being centered and united in Christrdquo

Sacrament and would spend all night in adoration once a

week That is the secret of the saints that is the secret of

the Church being centered and united in Christrdquo

neckline is showing off much more than her neck but the Eucharistic Minister giving her communion is Godrsquos

concentration is not broken by the people in cut-offs flip-flops and sleeveless shirts but the elderly woman sitting next

to them in the pew is God may not care what we wear to church but our neighbors do Catholic worship is never just

a ldquoMe and Jesusrdquo sort of thing it always involves community The reason we ask folks to keep quiet in church isnrsquot

because God is offended by our talking it is because our neighbors deserve a place where they can pray in silence

before and after Mass The same is true for proper dress at Mass Dressing well can assist the community in praying

wellmdashit can help alleviate distraction Dressing appropriately is a sign of respect for our Lord as well as our brothers

and sisters in Christ (The idea is to wear something more ldquospecialrdquo than the attire we wear around the house running

errands or working out in when we ldquoget readyrdquo for church)
