Where & When Can’t you go?
WVSOM Students can basically volunteer/rotate anywhere in the world with pre approval by CIMCC and the Associate Dean of Predoctoral Clinical Education/Department of Clinical Sciences
CIMCC checks each countries status as listed on the USA State Department travel warning list http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html , in addition we check the UK Travel Warning List and Canada’s. In the circumstance of an Alert on any travel warning site, CIMCC reviews the situation and risk factors are weighed. After CIMCC has screened a country, approval must be gained from the Associate Dean of Predoctoral Clinical Education before a student can travel there under WVSOM educational recognition.
Other limitations to receiving WVSOM educational approval: Countries where the PEACE Corps may have recently pulled out of or is planning
to pulling out of. Travel to countries in the news identified as having social, political or natural
disruption and the CIMCC Director, or a student’s Regional Associate Dean, or the Associate Dean of Predoctoral Clinical Education/Department of Clinical Sciences or the VP/Dean of Academic Affairs deems an area is potentially unsafe for student travel.
Warning, Alerts & Advisory
Travel WarningsA travel Warning is considered a long term unstable event and means you want to consider very carefully whether you should go to that country at all. Examples of reasons for issuing a Travel Warning might include unstable government, civil war, ongoing intense crime or violence, or frequent terrorist attacks, severe weather conditions like earth quakes or tsunami. Meaning there is a high risks of traveling to these places and to strongly consider not going to them at all. Travel Warnings remain in place until the situation changes; some have been in effect for years. Travel AlertsA Travel Alert is issued for short-term events like an election season that is bound to have many strikes, demonstrations, or disturbances; a health alert like an outbreak of H1N1; or evidence of an elevated risk of terrorist attacks. When these short-term events are over, the Travel Alert is cancel. In the instant of an Alert, CIMCC reviews the situation and risk factors.Travel Advisory A Travel Advisory usually has to do with weather meaning there is a good chance something is going to happen but it hasn’t happened yet.
