10 REASONS TO CONSIDER KODIAK COLLEGE

Diverse, talented, and budget-savvy students choose Kodiak College for their

early undergraduate studies for the following benefits:

1. Caring and Helpful Environment – The administration, faculty and staff understand Kodiak

students and genuinely want them to succeed. It is a supportive, family atmosphere that can

provide an effective transition to larger universities.

2. Small Classes and Individual Attention – This ensures you are individually challenged and

receive the extra support needed. Most classes average between 10 and 30 students.

3. Qualified Faculty – Classes are taught by engaged instructors with broad experience and

advanced degrees (many have earned a Ph.D. in their field).

4. Lower Cost – Many students receive financial aid in excess of their tuition and fees! Stretch

your college savings and financial aid awards, and avoid or reduce loans. Ask us about our

JumpStart program for first-time freshman and campus-based scholarships.

5. Attend College with Peers – The population of “traditional college-aged” students at Kodiak

College is increasing steadily with students aged 18-24 comprising more than 43% of the student

population (as of the published UAA Fall 2015 Campus Profile). Our campus and classrooms

benefit from having students of all ages and backgrounds.

6. Become Part of the University of Alaska – Kodiak College transcripts come from the

University of Alaska Anchorage, a regionally-accredited institution. Kodiak College courses have

the same transferability, content, and outcomes as those at University of Alaska Anchorage.

7. Get Involved – Opportunities include Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and

even planning for student exchange or study abroad. Have other ideas? We want to hear them.

8. Plan for the Future – Mandatory academic advising for first-time freshman gets you on track

towards graduation. You can begin or complete a college degree without leaving Kodiak, or

transfer according to your goals. From here, you can go anywhere!

9. Student Coaching Program – This optional free program matches you with a mentor at Kodiak

College and you connect weekly throughout the semester for support. Research shows that

students who sign up for coaching are more likely to be successful in college.

10. Support Kodiak! – Do you love K-town? Consider giving back by spending your higher

education dollars locally. A portion of each tuition dollar is awarded back to Kodiak College

students each fall and spring semester. This supports the continued sustainability of the Kodiak

campus and its students, faculty, and staff who contribute to our vibrant community and economy.
