Welcome to 2019 and the Spring Term! The first term has passed by so quickly that I feel a bit sad that we are moving through the year too soon. Did you make any resolutions for the New Year? I know some of the staff have, and through our Vision Days last week, it is clear to see some of the children have resolved to focus more on their learning and behaviours.

Headlice…

Once a week

Take a peek

Respect is something that grows over time.

Highlighting the value and demonstrating

respect is so very vital in our every day lives.

When I walk around school I see children

and staff demonstrating respect to each

other—children holding doors open, waiting

aside for younger (or older) people to pass

through. Working alongside others and

respecting different view points, and

accepting that others are not always going to

agree with us.

For friendship, the children all

made a link in a paperchain—

with names of their friends, and

words that describe good

friendship. This is now displayed

above the board in the entrance

hall—where our targets are.

Our first two days of term were immersing the

staff and children in our school vision—Carbrooke

CARES with friendship, thankfulness and

perseverance. As you can see, each letter of

CARES has a values word linked to it. The children

moved around the groups in their colour teams,

exploring the particular word, but also taking part

in activities to further understand what the word

means and can look like each day.

For enthusiasm, the children learned a ‘Rap’, or story and retold this in a manner that couldn’t help but make you feel excited about it! Being motivated and showing enthusiasm for new activities and familiar ones is hugely important—for children and adults, but isn’t always easy.

For perseverance, the children were in the hall,

completing physical tasks that were challenging.

This included activities such as hoola-hooping and

skipping. The children could all talk about times

when they had struggled with something, but

persevered to succeed.

For spiritual, the children

made hanging rainbows—

a folded paper plate,

coloured with a rainbow

and a rainbow paper tail.

They are hanging around

the school, reminding the

children how to be calm,

how to support each

other through our

Christian values.

Each year we organise a whole school

visit to a surprise location during the

latter part of the Summer Term. We

are hoping this year to go a bit further

afield, which will involve an early start

and a late finish. Through fundraising

for the cost of busses etc we try to

keep the price as low as possible for

you as parents. When doing your

planning, please allow about £10 for

this whole school trip, and the

likelihood of having individual class

trips during now and then.

Please note that we are due an

OFSTED visit this term.

As we continue to focus on our school attendance I need to bring

to your attention the times of the school day. School starts at

8:50am and the end of the day is 3:10pm for Reception and

3:15pm for the rest of the school. Over recent weeks the number

of children arriving late has increased, as has the number of

children leaving early. Unless there are exceptional circumstances,

and we have advanced notice of appointments you will not be

allowed to collect your child early. The office staff are spending

much of their time collecting children from classes and the

children, in turn, are missing their learning. Many thanks for help in

this matter.

Please do remember that class teachers are the first port of call with issues regarding your child. They can be seen, by prior arrangements, at a mutually convenient time.

If you would like to come in and talk to a member of the Senior Leadership Team please ask the office staff to book you a time. Please note, it is also possible to ask for a telephone discussion if this is more convenient.

We would like you to consider what support you can offer us as a school during the remainder of the year. So many people give time and we don’t like to feel we take advantage of them. Are you a keen baker? Are you an able gardener? Are you able to set up a disco? Do you have a skill or talent that you could share with some children? Do you know another language? If the answer to any of these questions is Yes, please let us know. We have so much more we can offer if we have a little bit extra help.

Mrs Read will be placing a

new order for uniform in

the next couple of weeks.

If you would like to place

an order, please collect an

order form from the office,

or look out for one coming

home. Please note: school

shoes are essential and

trainers are not permitted.

We have been invited to Knights Park

to bury some items in a time capsule. If

your child has anything they would

like to put in, please send it with their

name. A small group of children will go

up to the development in the Spring

Term when the capsule is sealed.
