Well it's hard to believe that the Academy of Prosthodontics meeting is only a few short months away. During the last few months the Executive Council has been thoroughly engaged in the selection of social events and the coordination of the scientific program. As you look through the entire package you will probably wonder how we could pack so much information and fun into only four days.

From a scientific standpoint the Academy always delivers. Personally I think that the AP consistently provides the correct balance of basic science, clinical research, material studies and technical presentations. We also include a few personal interest/professional development speakers who add variety to our programs and to our lives. The program provides material in all phases of prosthodontics, providing something for everyone in attendance. This year is no exception as HP Weber has put together a program that is sure to stimulate and energize the attendees. This program is outlined in this meeting brochure, I'm sure that you won't want to miss a minute of it.

Of course there is more to the Academy than scholarship. The reason that we remain strong after all these years is that the AP understands the need for friendship among its members. It is the meeting where we see ourselves as more than just colleagues and we do this at a variety of social events that make life interesting. This year we are fortunate to be having a meeting in a part of the country that has bountiful natural beauty. In the land of the Tetons we will see mountains, streams and wildlife. Our meeting allows us to return to a Four Seasons hotel, probably the finest hotel chain in the country if not the world. Indeed the Four Seasons Jackson Hole is a fabulous location for our meeting as it sits at the base of a mountain. No matter which direction we look the views are breathtaking.

The Welcome Reception will be held off site at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. The entire museum will be open to us for strolling and viewing. Docents will be there to help in our tours or we will have the opportunity to guide ourselves. The museum has its own restaurant so dinner should be special. Mid May in the mountains means that much of the natural wildlife will be reviving from their winter quiet times. We are fortunate to have identified a tour group to provide guided wildlife tours in the area. This will be a group of afternoon tours with a limited number of people in each of the tour vehicles. Although it is not a trip to Oz in which we might see lions and tigers and bears, it does provide the opportunity to see bears and moose and elk among others. While on a recent visit to the hotel I was lucky enough to see a moose crossing the road - by the way, they do this wherever and whenever they want - and these are impressively large animals. After the tour there will be time to visit the town of Jackson Hole for dinner or just for strolling this historic town.

The banquet will be held in the hotel and it promises to be another great event. The gavel will be passed to Tom Taylor and the cycle will begin anew. I look forward to seeing you all in Jackson Hole!
