POST :( power on self test)
The post thing that the BIOS does when it boots the pc to perform what is called power on self test or post for short. The post is a bulled in diagnostic program that checks you h/w to ensure that everything is present and functioning properly. Before the BIOS begin the actual boot. If later continuo’s with additional tests (such as memory test that you see printed on the screen) in the boot process is proceeding.
The post runs very quickly and you will normally not even noted that the is happening .unless it finds a problems amazing how many things are like that is n’t it?) you may have encountered a pc that, when turned on, made beeping sound and then stopped w//o booting up.
That is the post telling you something is wrong with the machine.
The speaker is used because this test happens so early on. That the videos is not even activated so early on. That the videos is not even activated yet! These beep patterns can be used to diagnose many h/w problems with your pc.
The exact patterns depend on the maker of the BIOS, the most common are award and AMI BIOSES.This part of the trouble shouting export will help you figure out.

MTM-Millions of tasks per mille seconds
Memory unit:
The number of bit in each location is word length.
Usually word size of memory is 8bit, 16bit, 32bits.
Each memory location is identified by unique address
BUS CONCEPTS:
The bus mainly used to transfer the data from on cup and the system.
Address bus Data bus Control bus
Address bus:
Address bus is a set of wire extended from the processer to system bus to carry address to the location of the different memories a system .the address bus points presently where the next operation will be promoted
Data bus:
The bus transfer instructions coming from or gong to the processor. it is a bidirectional bus
Control bus:
The control bus (command bus) transport order and synchronization signal coming from the control unit and travelling to all other hard ware components. It is a bidirectional bus hardware components, it is a bidirectional bus as it also transmit response signals from the hardware
Semiconductor:
A semiconductor is a solid material that has electrical conductivity in between the conductor and an insulator. It can very over that wide range either parentally and dynamically
Electronics including computer, mobile phone and digital audio players
Silicon is used to create most semi conductors commercially, but dozens of other martial are used well.
The doping of semiconductor
The addition small percentage of foreign atoms in the regular crystal lattice of silicon or germanium produces dramatic changes in their electrical properties, producing n-type and p-type semiconductor.
N-TYPE SEMICONDUCTOR
The addition pentaralent impurities such as the antimony, arsenic and phosphorous contributes free electrons, greatly increasing the conductivity of the intrinsic semiconductor phosphorus may be added by diffusing phosplaine gas (CH3)
P-TYPE SEMICONDUCTOR
The addition and trivalent impurities boron, aluminum or gallium to an intrinsic semiconductor creates. Deficiencies of valence electrons called ‘holes’. It is typical to use B2H6 diborane gas to diffuse born into silicon material.
SEMICONDUCTOR DIVES
Semiconductor dive have a replaced thermionic devices (vacuum tube) in the most applications. They used electron conduction in the solid state as opposed to the gaseous state or thermionic emission in a high vacuum.
Semiconductor are manufacture both as single discrete devices cike diodes, transistors etc, and integrated circuits (ic’s), which devices consist of numbers, from few to millions of devices manufactured and interconnected on a single semiconductor substrate.
DIODES
The diode is a device made from fuses p-type semiconductor and n-type semiconductor when forward biased transmitting current.
Uses: Diodes are extensively used in rectifier circuits
RECTIFIERS:
As we have noted when working of the elements of the power supply. The purpose of the rectifier section converts the incoming ac transformer or the other ac power source to same pulsating dc. That is current that flow alternately in both direction as shown in first figure to the right, and modifies. It so that the output current flows only in one direction as shown in the second and tried figures below.
The circuit required to do this may be nothing more than a single diode or it may be considerably more complex. From ever all rectifier circuit may be classifieds into one of two categories as follows.
HALF-WAVE RECTIFIER:
An easy wave to covet ac to pulsating dc is to simply allow half to the ac cycle to pass while blocking current to prevent it from following during the over half cycle. The figure to the right shows the resulting o/p.
