MASTHEADThe masthead of this magazine is printed in a bright pink which contrasts from the dark background and black and white font. The cover as a whole is quite simple and the bright colour of the masthead brightens up the full page and makes it more appealing and fun. Accent uses the same font style for every single cover, but similar to company magazine, it uses different colours to link to the different seasons. If it was a summer edition the colour would have been a brighter pink whereas a more demure pink has been used to link to the warmer tones of autumn.

MAIN COVER IMAGEThe cover image is very prominent in the cover and draws in the most attention. The background is also noticeable as we can see that the model is standing in a theatre with a lot of bright lights in the background. The bright lights create a warmer tone to the magazine which links well to Autumn. The models lipstick is a dark purple shade which is a current trend for fall fashion. This shows that the magazine is up to date with the latest trends and that just because they are not as well known they still know fashion.

BARCODEBarcodes are a stereotypical convention of magazines and are stereotypically found in the bottom left corner of the front cover. This shows that Accent magazine is complying to conventions in order to maintain a professional look and be taken serious in the market.

COVER STORIESThe cover stories are written in black and white stories which are binary opposites therefore they contrast each other. However in my opinion the cover stories are very hard to read in comparison to the warm colours of the background. The font styles also work very well as they fit in with the theme of fashion however the see through elements of them makes them harder to read. The colours however work well to create a classy theme to the magazine and helps it to appeal to an older target audience rather than using bright colours which appeal to younger audiences.

EXAMPLE OF IMAGES FROM THE MAGAZINE

These images are found in accent magazines fall edition. Accent is a regional magazine for the north east and credits itself on using models and designers from the north east or who are available to this area. The images show the autumn theme as the tones used are warmer and darker which show the shift in seasons. The bottom image shows the use of a dark red and a dark blue which compliment each other and make the image seem warmer but also more vibrant than any typical image. The top image shows a girl dress smartly but warmly in a long white pencil skirt and a black suit style top which isn't something that would be warn in any other season. The poses are also very important because they show warmth while highlighting the clothing been worn by the models. The location of the image is also important because they add a scene to the photo and help them to tell a story. The top image is in a busy street which implies that it’s a business woman and the bottom women is in a home ready to go to a elegant ball. All of this creates the assumption that the magazine is aimed at a more mature target audience.

EXAMPLE OF ARTICLES FROM THE MAGAZINE

These examples of double page spreads from the magazine represent again the older and higher class target audience. The images are the main emphasis of the cover and hold the most importance because it is a fashion magazine. The clothing shows that the magazine is aimed at people of a higher class than that of company because the clothing is more respectable and is designed for more mature people (working class). The font choice is good because they link well with the image, splash is written in a see through font which is just like a splash of water whereas the second article has block strong writing to match the strong image and colour scheme. The font is very small on the pieces which implies that the fashion should do most of the talking.
