Australian Rules FootballParkside Football Club

The Parkside FIDA Team welcomes people of all abilities to get involved in the game of Australian Rules football. You can get involved either as a player (game or training) or as a supporter/ spectator everyone is welcomed, so if you are 15 years and over this is the club for you. The team is based at the Parkside Football Club at Pitcher Park in Alphington.

Basketball Helping Hoops

Helping Hoops Inc. is a Melbourne charity running free basketball programs for disadvantage youth. Helping Hoops in partnership with Special Olympics Victoria are running 45 minute basketball programs for people with an intellectual disability living in Melbourne’s north.

Access DarebinAccess Darebin is published biannual and is a guide to a range of accessible and inclusive sport, recreation and leisure activities available within local sporting clubs, leisure centres, neighbourhood houses and community organisations. The listed activities and programs are fun, affordable and take place in supportive environments with trained staff and volunteers.

Darebin City Council has a long standing commitment to accessible and inclusive sport, recreation and leisure opportunities that increase the participation and involvement of people with a disability in community sport and recreation.

Dance Moving Stars

Moving Stars combines movement, dance, drama, music and art into two hours of fun. Adults with a disability can get together and be creative in a safe, caring and friendly space. Moving Stars is facilitated by qualified dance therapists.

Staying Active Memberships

The membership provides people who have a disability concession card or a senior’s card access to an

affordable membership at Reservoir Leisure Centre. The membership provides access to the gym and pool along with a number of group fitness and mind body classes. All facilities can be accessed 7 days a week up to 4pm daily.

This program is an exercise program for men with progressive neurological conditions.

Horse Riding Ridability at Bundoora Park

Ridability Victoria is a not for profit organisation providing opportunities for riders with a disability to participate in horse-related activities, including learning to ride, trail riding and opportunities to compete in games, dressage and show jumping.

Lawn BowlsAlphington AAA Bowls Program

7-Aside Football 7-Aside Football! is delivered in partnership by Disability Sport and Recreation and Northcote City Soccer Club. The 7-Aside Football Development Program will teach you the skills to dribble the ball down the field or scoot the ball across the goal line. Once you

have mastered the skills of 7-Aside Football, take to the field for some competition. The 7-Aside Football Development Program is aimed at Victorians with Cerebral Palsy, Acquired Brain Injury and people who have experienced stroke.

Modified Sports Programs Kelly Sports

Kelly Sports will be able delivering the Time Out for Sport Program is back again in Term 4, 2011. The program provides children with autism an opportunity to participate in sport and recreation programs that supports the development of their motor and social skills. The Sport 4 All Program runs of a Tuesday afternoon from NMIT Sports Hall at the Preston Campus. Free Exercise in the Park Free Exercise in Park is a free initiatives delivered by Darebin City Council that encourages participation in physical activity within various parks and reserves across Darebin. The program is offered three times per year for a 6-8 week block during Spring, Summer and Autumn/Winter.

The program provides three different types of activities these include; Outdoor Fitness, Pilates and Yoga classes.

Some of the venues for the program include; Penders Park, All Nations Park, Edwards Lake Park, Bundoora Park, Zwar Reserve, Oldis Gardens, Darebin Community Sports Stadium, Reservoir Neighbourhood House and Fairfield Community Room.

New Outdoor Fitness Equipment Darebin City Council has recent installed new outdoor all weather gym equipment to be used freely by any member of the public for teenagers through seniors in two of our parks. The equipment provides a cardiovascular workout, developing most muscle group while enjoying the scenic outdoors. With this equipment you can enjoy your exercise any time for free and no commitment.

Getting Out and About...Are you aged 18-65, have a disability and live with a family or voluntary carer in the North-West Metro region? If so, then contact the Community Recreation Facilitator (CRF) at Darebin City Council today. The CRF can help you locate and access community activities you enjoy – such as:

• Joining a footy club• Taking art or cooking classes• Learning to use computers• Going to the gym• Meeting up with a social group• Going on regular outings to

places of interest

The CRF can also help you plan getting to and from a community activity and introduce you to other people so you feel safe and confident going to activities on your own.

YMCA Open Doors Programs YMCA Open Doors is a community based initiative that aims to strengthen health inequalities by ensuring no one is denied access to YMCA programs and services that strengthen the mind, body and sprit.

YMCA Open Doors is targeted at people and families whose financial circumstances make them unable, not unwilling, to pay the full fee of YCA programs and services.

The criteria for the YMCA Open Doors states that;

Applicants need to live or attend a services or school locally to the YMCA managed centre/ program they wish to access

Children 10 year and under must be accompanied by an adult when attending the YMCA managed centre/ program

Applicants will need appropriate attire to participate in some programs

To receive ongoing assistance, applicants will need to demonstrate that their circumstance has been improved through their involvement in YMCA Open Doors.

Within the City of Darebin the Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre (YMCA) is a participating centre in YMCA Open Doors for further details regarding the initiative at Northcote please contact the centre on 9496 1050.

2013/2014 Community Grants The City of Darebin 2013/2014 Community Grants Program will open on Monday 4 March to not-for-profit community groups and organizations.

Applications can be submitted for activities/projects and programs focusing on issues such as social justice, health, education, sport and recreation, environment and arts and culture.

Community groups and organisations can also apply for venue hire at a number of Council’s nominated facilities to conduct meetings and activities.

This year only on-line applications will be accepted and only annual grants will be available with the maximum of $6,000.

The Information Booklet 2013/2014 with guidelines, selection criteria is available from www.darebin.vic.gov.au/communitygrants or hardcopies can be obtained from our Customer Service Office at 274 Gower Street, Preston.
