Welcome

Stay on the Chet Valley Vineyard & enjoy gorgeous views of the vines and surrounding countryside. The recently converted Vine house, 8 miles from Norwich has ample free parking and wide access doors, all on one level. The vineyard and winery are also accessible. Contact the owners of the Vineyard directly well in advance of your stay to book a vineyard tour & tasting. The property is single storey with disabled facilities and sleeps 6 people. The nearby Norfolk Broads and the Norfolk & Suffolk coastline offer

stunning beaches, many with accessible promenades. It is possible to hire mobility equipment locally in Norfolk. We’d love to welcome you to our vineyard.

Travel by public transport

• You can get to The Vine House at Chet Valley Vineyard by bus and train.

• The nearest Bus stop is the X2 which is in Thurton about 1/2 mile away from the Vine House. If guests need to be collected from the bus stop this can be arranged in advance with John or Bridget Hemmant The bus stop is 0.50 miles / 3.4 km from The Vine House at Chet Valley Vineyard.

• The nearest train station is Norwich. The train station is 8 miles / 12.9 km from The Vine House at Chet Valley Vineyard.

• Collection can be arranged from either the train station or the bus stop. Either by booking in advance with John or Bridget Hemmant or a taxi can be arranged.

Travel by taxi

• You can get a taxi with 01508 by calling 01508 321321. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

• You can get a taxi with Chet Taxis by calling 01508 520705. The taxi company has a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

• We have a transfer service for visitors. Wheelchair users can use the transfer service.

• Transfers need to be booked in advance with John or Bridget Hemmant

Parking

• We have a car park. The parking is less than 50 metres from the main entrance. Parking is free.

• There is a drop-off point at the main entrance. The drop-off point has a dropped kerb.

• From the car park to the entrance, there is level access. The route is 800mm wide, or more.

• We have a transport service, to take visitors from the car park to the main entrance. Our transport service is wheelchair accessible.

• The access to the Vine House holiday let is all on one level with no steps and no slopes. No lift is required to access the building as everything is on the same level.

Access to the Vine House is a very short distance from the ample adjacent parking area.

There is plenty of accessible parking immediately beside the Vine House.

There is a wide pathway from the parking area to the entrance into the Vine House - which is via a wide door into the kitchen.

There is a well lit accessible, level and wide access pathway with no slope or steps from the parking area to the entrance.

Arrival

• From the street to the main entrance, there is level access.

• The path is 800mm wide, or more.

Main entrance

• The main entrance has level access.

• The door is 900mm wide.

• The main door is side hung and manual.

• When you arrive, we can help carry your luggage.

• The Main entrance is via the wide access Kitchen door which has a porch. This is reached via a well lit wide level path from the large adjacent car parking area. Contact John and Bridget Hemmant in advance of arrival in order for assistance to be arranged.

The wide access doors to enter the building allow excellent accessibility.

There is level, wide step free access between the outside patio area and the entrance via the kitchen.

Getting around inside

Visual Impairment - General Information

• We have high colour contrast between walls and doorframes.

The doors within the Vine House have contrasting frames to aid visibility.

Bedrooms

• All bedrooms have windows.

• Bedrooms have ceiling lights, bedside lamps, spot lights and natural daylight.

• Lights are halogen, LED and energy saving. Some lights can be controlled independently.

• TVs have subtitles.

• All bedrooms are non-smoking.

• We have non-allergic bedding.

• No bedrooms have fitted carpets.

• There are floor boards rather than fitted carpets which minimises the risk of dust related allergic reactions

• We can move the bedroom furniture, to improve accessibility.

• The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left.

There is excellent space and access around the double bed in the main bedroom at the Vine House.

There is a twin room with a low level wardrobe with accessible hanging space for clothes.

There is a second double room for accompanying guests without mobility issues.

There is a full length mirror and additional seating with a bucket chair in the main accessible bedroom.

• The route to the bedroom is 800mm wide, or more. The bedroom door is 800mm wide. There is 2000mm at the side of the bed. The bed is 650mm high. There is 300mm under the bed.

• The bedroom is double. The bathroom is separate. It is not an ensuite.

• The bathroom door is 850mm wide.

• The shower has a seat. The shower has a handrail.

• The bathroom has a level access shower. There is a shower chair available. The level access shower has handrails.

• The toilets have handrails. The direction of transfer onto the toilet is to the left. There is 800mm at the side of the toilet.

• There is 1000mm in front of the toilet. The toilet seat is 470mm high.

• The basin is 690mm high. The taps are lever operated. There is space under the basin, with no pedestal.

• The bathroom has an emergency call system.

• The walls and the bathroom fittings have high colour contrast.

The is a spacious shower/wet room with a disabled toilet and accessible features.

The shower at the Vine House has a grab rail and a hand held shower head to make showering easy.

• We have a separate kitchen and dining room. From the main entrance to the kitchen, there is level access.

• The route is 800mm wide, or more.

• The door is 800mm wide.

• The work surface is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

• The hob is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

• The sink is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

• The oven is available at a height between 650mm and 900mm.

• The table and plates have high colour contrast.

• From the main entrance to the dining room, there is level access. There is a permanent ramp. The route is 800mm wide, or more. The door is 800mm wide.

• The entire property is on one level with no need for ramps or lifts. The main entrance is via the Kitchen door - or the property can be accessed via the double patio doors between the lounge and the courtyard area.

There is an open plan kitchen at the Vine House. Access to the building is via the Kitchen.

Lounge

There is a comfortable lounge area with wood burning stove to keep guests warm in the winter.

Getting around outside

Gardens between the Vine House and the Vineyard

• From the main entrance to the gardens, there is level access.

• The route is 1000mm wide, or more.

• The Vine House opens directly onto the patio and garden area and there are no steps or slope and therefore no requirement for a ramp

There is a gorgeous view across from the Vine House lawns towards the vines and the old winery at Chet Valley Vineyard.

There is a very well lit pathway from the large accessible car park to the Vine House main entrance door.

There is a wide level pathway from the car park to the entrance doorway with no steps or slopes at the Vine House.

The Vine House entrance door is sheltered by a small porchway.

The wide entrance into the Vine House is via the kitchen from the patio courtyard area.

There is very wide step free access from Lounge/dining area to the patio/courtyard area at the Vine House.

The outdoor patio/courtyard area leads onto the garden at the Vine House with no slopes or steps.

The patio leads directly onto the garden at the Vine House.

The garden leads directly onto the vines at Chet Valley vineyard.

There are wide access doors from the lounge to the patio area.

There is wide access from the kitchen to the patio, which is also the main entrance to thee Vine House.

• There is an area of long grass immediately adjacent to the vineyard and away from the lawns which can easily be accessed from the Vine House.

• We have an area to charge mobility scooters and battery powered wheelchairs.

• The battery powered equipment can be charged at the winery with the agreement of John Hemmant the owner and winemaker

• You can hire mobility equipment from Be Active Mobility Norwich by calling 01603 666803.

Emergency evacuation procedures

• There are several wide access firedoors which cannot be locked from inside the building and therefore provide a means of exit in an emergency.

Customer care support

• Some staff have disability awareness training.

• Staff are available 24 hours a day.

• The owners live less than 1/2 mile away from the holiday let and are available 24 hours

• We have other services for people with accessibility requirements.

• Acessible vineyard tours and wine tastings from the winery next door. These need to be pre booked.
