If friends or family complain that your TV or Radio is too loud one of our Wireless TV/Audio Systems may prove invaluable in improving your entertainment enjoyment. Wireless systems allow you the freedom to move around without the need to have wires between you and the item you want to listen to. However they all need to be connected to your TV, Radio or music etc. to pick up the sound using the leads provided.

You may �nd listening in a noisy situation is stressful OR turning the volume up on the TV or Radio is not enough OR you have di�culty in hearing the programmes clearly.

Your hearing aid may have the “T” (loop) facility with this you can enhance your listening by making more of your hearing aid and choose one of the products with the T symbol.

Sounds will be transmitted directly to your hearing aid’s loop facility increasing intelligibility and signi�cantly reducing background noise.

Products without the T symbol are suitable for those who do not wear hearing aids.

Even with today’s rapidly changing technology we can usually help you �nd a solution to connect to your existing equipment with a range of items and information to help you enjoy your entertainment.

The wireless listeners allow quick connection to your TV, Radio or Music device. They all require you to wear a receiver whether or not you use a hearing aid.

Digital listening systems use the 2.4GHz frequency to transmit their sound from the transmitter to the receiver. They use a coding system that requires the transmitter to be matched to the receiver(s) required and so are most unlikely to su�er any form of interference or reception of other similar systems. Normally up to 4 receivers can be used with any one transmitter.

FM Listening systems often use the 863MHz frequency to transmit their sound from transmitter to the receiver. They do not require any coding and so an unlimited amount of receivers can be used per transmitter. Some have selectable channels to reduce interference possibilities. Range can be greater than digital systems.

Infrared (IR) listening systems use infrared light to transmit the sound. The receivers must be able to “see” the transmitters often referred to as being in “line of sight”. The signals cannot go round chairs or through walls and so are limited to the room they are used in. Note: Infrared systems are not compatible with Plasma screen TVs. We recommend digital systems for use with Plasma TVs.

Induction loop systems transmit the sound directly to your hearing aid’s “T” (loop) facility. Although they require the �tting of a small thin wire around your room, often referred to as a loop aerial, you do not have to wear anything extra. You are making more use of your hearing aid’s built-in facilities.

HOW DOES THE SWING Digital WORK?

The SWING Digital Listener consists of two parts, a mains powered transmitter and a receiver powered by a rechargeable battery. The transmitter picks up the sound from your TV and sends it to the receiver via 2.4GHz digital wireless technology. The receivers, when paired with the transmitter on �rst use, will then not su�er any interference from other systems. A fully charged battery will last up to 5 hours. An intelligent charging system enables the batteries to be recharged fully in less than 4 hours but will just top up if necessary.

The system includes the facility to connect to digital optical audio out as well as traditional analogue audio sources.

HOW DOES THE SWING IR WORK?

The SWING IR consists of two parts, a mains powered transmitter and a receiver powered by a rechargeable battery. The transmitter picks up the sound from your TV and sends it to the receiver via an invisible Infra Red beam. As this system transmits via infra red the receiver must always be in the “line of sight” of the transmitter. Infra Red is the same system a remote control uses to work with your TV. For this reason the transmitter is best placed either on top of or near your TV. A fully charged battery will last for up to 6 hours listening with a maximum charge time of 4 hours.

An induction loop system takes advantage of the “T” or loop facility that is built into most hearing aids.

The main advantage of using the loop facility is that it can minimise the distracting e�ect of background noise and so enhance the sounds you want to hear making them easier to understand.

Because the loop receiver facility is built into your hearing aid you will not need to wear an additional receiver like those in the previous pages of TV listeners.

The principle of a loop system is bit like radio. A transmitter sends the sound direct to your hearing aid which has a built-in receiver known as the loop facility. Hearing aids with this facility are often referred to as having a telecoil �tted in them.

Loop systems come in many sizes. From a personal loop worn around the neck or close to the ear, room loops for the home or o�ce meeting room through to churches, cinemas and theatres even football stadiums have looped areas. If you have the loop facility in your hearing aid you can bene�t at home, work or entertainment venue.

You may �nd that your hearing aid is perfectly suited to your hearing loss in a one to one situation but when the person you want to hear gets further away or there are many people speaking at once you �nd it di�cult to discriminate between the person you want to hear and other people.

Loop systems in their many di�erent forms help to bridge the gap between you and the talker by bringing their speech directly to your ears.

Induction Loop SystemsSome users �nd that whilst bene�ting from the sound of the TV, for instance, being transmitted directly to their hearing aid they feel cut o� from other useful sounds like the doorbell or being able to hear their partner. This can be overcome by asking for an additional program where the loop and microphone are mixed together. This used to be known as “MT”

We would recommend that most hearing aid users ask for both the “T” and “MT” programs to be activated. This enables you to bene�t at home from being able to listen to TV at a volume suitable for all the household by using the “MT” program while not missing the doorbell or listening to your partner. However, if going to the bank, theatre, cinema or church using the “T” facility will enable you to hear just what you want to hear either the �lm or performance and not the noises near to you.

Ask your audiologist if you are not clear how to use the loop features of your hearing aid or you need it activating. Sometimes the sensitivity of the loop program may need adjusting, again consult your audiologist.

IS THE ROOM LOOP SYSTEM EASY TO INSTALL?

The Room Loop System requires no technical knowledge to install. Simply run the loop cable from the ampli�er around the edge of the room and back to the ampli�er as illustrated. The loop cable is only a single core wire. Cable clips are supplied to allow you to �x it to a skirting board. When you come to a doorway either go up and round it or go under the carpet it doesn’t matter as long as you go round the room. Tuck the loop cable out of the way under the edge of your carpet or run it around your skirting board or picture rail and plug it into the back of the Loop Ampli�er.

WHAT WILL THE ROOM LOOP SYSTEM DO FOR ME?

A Room Loop System is designed for use in a living room or lounge. It will help you make more use of your hearing aid. By using the “T” or loop facility it will e�ectively bring the wanted sounds closer to you and minimise background noise. You will be able to move around the room without wearing any additional devices whilst listening to your TV, radio etc. The major advantage of a loop system over other TV systems is that once the system is setup all you will ever have to do after that is switch the TV on and switch your hearing aid to “T” or loop program.

The volume of your TV can be set at a level that is comfortable for other listeners whilst you can adjust your own sound level with the volume control on the loop ampli�er.

By directly connecting your loop ampli�er to your TV you will cut out background sounds. However, you will still be able to hear your doorbell, telephone ring or conversation by using the microphone supplied with the system and hear them through the loop

This loop ampli�er allows you to directly connect to several pieces of equipment at the same time, for instance your TV and Hi-Fi. You can quickly select which one you want to listen to at the touch of a button.

A compact alternative for an individual to the room loop cable is the loop pad. Instead of running the loop cable around the room simply place the loop pad under or behind a chair cushion and connect it to the ampli�er and you are ready to receive in your favourite chair.

HOW DOES THE ROOM LOOP SYSTEM WORK?

The Room Loop System is a complete, easy to install mains powered system. The supplied loop cable is run around the edge of the room and connected to the Loop Ampli�er.

Alternatively you may use a loop pad placed under a chair cushion or across the chair back. This can be suitable for a single person or where a limited loop �eld is required.

The ampli�er transmits the sound from your TV directly to your hearing aid when switched to the “T” position. The sound from your TV is picked up by the Loop Ampli�er via a direct connection lead, whilst an additional microphone can be used for other sounds. The loop signal is then transmitted via the loop wire or pad “the aerial” to the telecoil in the hearing aid.

Ear hook

An ear hook or ear loop has a very small loop built-into a hook similar to the shape of a behind the ear hearing aid. It is extremely thin and comfortable to wear. It is often found to be more discreet than a neckloop. Mono and Stereo versions are available. For those with two hearing aids the stereo version would be used. These ear hooks can be used independently with mobile phones and MP3 players.

Headset

Designed to be worn under the chin. Lightweight and comfortable, these are the most popular headsets giving the loudest output. They are suitable for a mild to moderate hearing loss. They have rubber ear tips that are very soft and comfortable to wear. These ear tips are washable and can be renewed.

Headphones

Traditional style lightweight over the head headphones with an adjustable headband. Suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Can also be worn over hearing aids and use either the microphone or loop facility.

Ear phones

Modern in-ear earphones designed to be lightweight, comfortable and discreet they have the same mini loudspeakers as the headset.

They are supplied with clear silicone ear moulds to help them stay in your ears and seal so that feedback can be reduced.

Suitable for a mild to moderate hearing loss.

Neckloop

If your hearing aid has the “T” or loop facility then you can make more of your hearing aid and its personalised settings by using a loop. The neck loop is a personal loop worn around the neck and transmits the sound directly to your hearing aid when switched to “T” or loop.

Using any of these products with or without a hearing aid will help bring the sound closer to you and reduce background noise. The products for hearing aid users transmit the sound inductively directly to the hearing aid so cutting out background noise.

The issue you may have is that some of the small MP3 players do not have enough output to drive a neck loop. If you want to use your hearing aid’s loop program then we would recommend the Ear Hooks as these give excellent reproduction.

If you have two hearing aids and use the stereo Ear Hook then if your MP3 player has stereo output you will hear in Stereo unlike a Neck Loop which only transmits in Mono.

For these items, headphone extension leads can be used to extend the distance between you and the audio equipment.

These alerts can be plugged directly into either the system receiver, portable receiver and plug in �ash receiver. The vibrating pad uses its internal 3 AA batteries and so does not draw power from the connected receiver, especially useful if using the system in a portable environment. The MF1 and MA1 can have further alerts plugged into them. So if the standard receiver is not enough an enhanced alert system can be setup. The signolux audio universal transmitter will pick up sounds from di�erent sources and transmit a signal to signolux receivers in range.

The primary function can be used to monitor existing doorbells or door intercom systems. A disc sound sensor with a 1.5m lead is included to make this connection by placing the disc sensor directly onto the sound source.

The signolux direct connection universal transmitter will directly connect to a range of sound sources and transmit indications to signolux receivers.

The primary function is to connect to a telephone socket to alert you when a landline telephone rings. A BT telephone style line cord and double adapter are included as standard.

Two further connection sockets are provided. The �rst (2.5mm jack) is provided so that the transmitter can be connected direct to alarm systems that have wired terminal output in the range 3-15V AC or DC. Connections can also be made to the low voltage side of existing doorbell systems. A 1m lead is provided for this purpose.

A second (3.5mm jack) socket is for connect to closing contact switches from alarm accessories such as door / window contacts, pressure mats and water level detectors.

Only one type of connection per transmitter can be made, however, up to 8 transmitters can be used to link to a system icon although only one sound per icon can be set up.

You can also use this transmitter with our standard electret microphone (330-001), not included, to monitor sounds. This is particularly useful for baby monitoring.

The lisa system is invaluable for people who are hard of hearing – particularly if they are not wearing hearing aids, e.g. at night – alerting them to important events such as smoke alarms. It can also be used in the work place, where there are noisy or di�cult communication conditions.

The lisa system is extremely �exible in meeting your needs. The system will contain only those items you need. HOW DOES THE lisa PAGER SYSTEM WORK?

The lisa system is made up of transmitters and receivers. Transmitters detect sound events and use radio signals to send the information to the receivers. Separate receivers can alert you in several ways; distinct �ashes, light indicators, vibrations or sounds.

The lisa system can be as simple as one transmitter and one receiver but you can add any number of transmitters and /or receivers to meet your needs.

A transmitter picks up signals from a wide variety of di�erent sources e.g. telephone or doorbell, and transmits them to a receiver which converts these signals into distinct �ashes, vibrations or sound. You could install a range of transmitters for di�erent events with just one or many receivers.

The lisa system receivers have a set of indicators which show you which transmitter has been activated. They also importantly vibrate or �ash with a distinct pattern according to which transmitter is sending, so even if you can’t see the indicator directly you will be able to detect the event.

Importantly if more than one transmitter is activated at the same time then the receivers will show all those events at the same time so you know what is going on without missing an event.

When choosing transmitters the sound events may be captured in di�erent ways. An acoustic connection uses a microphone/sensor to pick up the sound. A direct connection uses a speci�c lead to connect directly to the relevant sound event; doorbell etc. This method can be more e�ective than acoustic but acoustic may be easier to install.

The lisa system has a range of up to 100 metres but this may be reduced if the signal has to pass through structures such as walls.

The lisa system operates using the 868MHz frequency band. It has a unique channel coding system to avoid interference and allows up to 10 separate lisa systems to be operated independently within range of one another. All transmitters and receivers have a channel selector.

All units operate on alkaline batteries (included) and many have a mains adaptor facility and/or rechargeable batteries.

The units contain all the necessary leads and �xings. Full easy-to-follow instructions are included with all units.

A simple lisa starter system comprising a transmitter for the doorbell and telephone to meet basic 24hour alerting needs.

� A combined transmitter (230-541) that can connect to a standard telephone socket and/or a doorbell, includes connection leads for your telephone socket and an acoustic sensor for your doorbell. The doorbell and telephone socket for this system need to be within 4m of each other

� A portable pager receiver (230-570) that receives the signals from the transmitters. A small, battery operated unit that can be carried in your pocket, �xed to your belt with the clip. It will vibrate when the transmitter is activated by either telephone ringing or the doorbell rings. You will not miss either call

� A vibrating pad (230-315) that connects to the pager with a 2m lead. Place the pager on the bedside table and the pad under the pillow. The pager unit will not vibrate when the external pad is connected

If telephone callers’ voices seem very quiet or mu�ed you will �nd a solution amongst the selection of telephones here that have either been specially designed for people with a hearing loss or that have features that make them suitable. At home, in the o�ce or when out and about we have a selection of desktop (corded), portable (cordless) and mobile phones.

All the telephones here have variable ampli�cation and most have a tone control. With the help of variable ampli�cation using the telephone can be become less frustrating. However, just increasing the volume doesn’t always help. Most hearing loss is not equal across the di�erent frequencies and so a tone control is extremely useful when trying to improve clarity to boost the frequencies that are being lost. This leads to a greater understanding of the person you are having a conversation with. Using both volume and tone together will give the most help. A mute function allows you to have a private conversation at your end without the person on the other end hearing your conversation.

All the landline corded telephones in this catalogue have an inductive coupler in the handset that can be used in conjunction with a hearing aid that has the ‘T’ or ‘Loop’ facility. If phones have this facility they and are listed as ‘Hearing Aid Compatible’ (HAC)

Some of the portable and mobile phones can be used directly with hearing aids and are shown as HAC. Should interference be experienced then a neck loop or ear hook

Telecoms - Telephones and Accessoriescan be used as shown in the accessories to eliminate the interference.

We would recommend the use of caller id. Using this feature enables you to answer calls with con�dence as you know who is calling. This is a service provided by your telephone service provider. If your phone has a display then using this service will show the number of the caller. If you already have that number saved in the address book then the name of the caller will be displayed; sometimes with their number as well. This feature is standard with mobile phones but is frequently found with landline desktop and portable phones.

You may wish to keep your own phone even though it is not loud enough. Our Telephone Ampli�ers for corded phones can be connected to almost all desktop phones and allow you to boost the volume and more importantly the tone. These ampli�ers can be used at home or in the o�ce as they do not a�ect the line or extension that they are connected to.

Portable or DECT phones allow you the freedom to have a phone anywhere around the house or down the garden. Many have good ampli�cation and tone controls. Some have an answer phone that you can access through the handset and bene�t from the ampli�cation. They can be increasingly used with hearing aids without interference.

Mobile phones speci�cally designed for people with hearing impairments are available that have good ampli�cation and good performance when used with a hearing aid. You may also �nd the ear hooks and neck loops good accessories to make the use of these even easier. Some of the keypads have very accessible buttons that make using the phones very easy. Some of the displays are extremely clear and menu options very easy to �nd.

TipsSIM cards: All our mobiles are unlocked (not linked to any speci�c network) and can be used with most SIM cards either Contract or Pay As You Go. SIM cards are not supplied with our phones but are widely available to suit your locality. If you have an existing phone you may be able to simply swap the SIM into your new phone and so keep your old phone number.

Bluetooth® technology allows connections between di�erent devices without the need for wires and has a useful range up to 10m.

Hearing Aid Compatibility: Whilst hearing aids become signi�cantly better at becoming immune to the possibility of buzzing or humming noises some aids are more immune than others to the possibility of interference.

Some aids may work well with one phone and not another as the amount and type of wireless signals transmitted by the phones can vary signi�cantly. So it is extremely di�cult to say which aids will work with which phones. However experience now shows that the newer

the hearing aid and the newer the phone the less likely you are to have problems. In fact you may �nd that you don’t even need to use your T/Loop facility, just place the phone speaker as close to the hearing aid microphone as possible.

A set of ratings exist to help users �nd mobile telephones that are suited for use with hearing aids.

M-Ratings: Wireless devices rated for hearing aids switched to the microphone setting. The higher the number the better the rating. M4 is currently the highest.

T-Ratings: Wireless devices rated for hearing aids switched to the T/Loop/telecoil setting. The higher the number the better the rating. T4 is currently the highest.

Ampli�cation: Manufacturers often quote a dB ampli�cation range for their phones, this not the absolute output of a handset. It is the volume control range of the phone from a level that is not quoted. Generally it is just a guide to output and we have our own set of star ratings.

There are three main audio transmission systems available with di�erent application possibilities.

� Induction loop systems (ILS)

� Infrared transmission systems (IRS)

� Radio-frequency transmission systems (RFS)

The main advantage of all these systems is that the sound is delivered to the listeners in a pure, undistorted form that is not in�uenced by the distance of the listeners to the sound source or by any annoying background noise in the room.

In order to ensure that any listening system is e�ective, it is important to compare the requirements of the venue and its architectural features such that the properties of the chosen transmission system is not in con�ict with its surroundings. Site visits and assessments are an important part of any pre-installation for a new or upgrading venue.

The key to all of these transmission systems though is their input from an audio source - microphone, one or many, or a public address system. If the quality of the input is not at its best then the output will not be satisfactory.

Induction Loop SystemsAn induction loop system consists of a loop of wire around an area and an ampli�er. The loop, an insulated wire, runs around the outside of the listening area. The ampli�er transmits the required audio signals as an alternating current into the loop. A magnetic �eld of audio sound is then created inside the loop allowing listeners with the loop facility on their hearing aids to move freely in the room and receive the audio signals directly into their hearing aids without unwanted sounds.

Infrared transmission systemsAn IR audio transmission system consists of at least one transmitter and one or more receivers. The transmitter is connected to an audio source and transmits the signals received in the form of infrared light wirelessly to receivers. Receivers convert the infrared light into audio signals and feed them into either headphones or neckloop for the user.

This technology can prove superior to other systems in particular where the venue requires con�dentiality, e.g. in courtrooms or conference rooms and in areas where several transmission systems are operated close to one another in neighbouring rooms, such as in multiplex cinemas or domestic rooms in apartments. Infrared can also be used where there may be a large amount of radio interference.

Radio-frequency transmission systemsRadio-frequency audio transmission systems are well established as wireless TV listening systems for the home. However, professional equipment is available for large scale applications e.g. sport arenas, churches, in lecture or seminar rooms, as well as schools and universities. Portable, tour guide systems are useful in many areas e.g. museums, art galleries, tourist attractions and special events or transportation. The availability and use of several channels makes it possible to provide di�erent information at the same time, for simultaneous interpreting into di�erent languages, for example, or for the treatment of di�erent topics for several listening groups located close to one another.

1. Prices Whilst we do our best to keep any price rises to a

minimum, we reserve the right to increase our prices at any time. Should we do so, we will contact you on receipt of your order with details of the increase giving you the opportunity to cancel your order should you wish to do so.

Should your payment not clear then we may, in addition to any other rights we may have:

• Suspend delivery of the product ordered or any part of them until we receive cleared funds.

• Legally recover those products already delivered to you from you or your premises at any reasonable time and retain ownership until payment is accepted.
