Shakespeare 400 is a four-day program designed for high school students to explore the works and the world of William Shakespeare. Students will have the opportunity to explore the plays of Shakespeare as actors, with instruction from the faculty of the theatre program at Grenfell Campus, and take in lectures by renowned Shakespeare scholars. Dance workshops and a King James-style feast will introduce students to the world of Shakespeare’s London. The week ends with two special theatrical presentations of plays by Shakespeare, putting students in the live environment of the theatre of the 16th century. In all, this is an active, participatory week, and you will be expected to be involved in a number of ways. Come prepared to move, to speak, to dance, to eat, and to have a great time. Grenfell Campus is home to Newfoundland and Labrador’s only undergraduate degree program in theatre, and as such is uniquely positioned to offer these workshops – with a 180 seat theatre and practice rooms, we have the perfect environment for interactive sessions. Grenfell Campus has state-of-the-art lecture and presentation spaces for lectures and talks and for watching movies. The King Henry Feast will be served in our brand new reception atrium in the Arts and Science Building. Accommodation Out-of-town students will be billeted with local students, in an effort to encourage everyone to meet, mingle, and make new friends. meals Each evening will feature a special meal for all participants, the cost of which is included in the registration fee. All other meals are the responsibility of the participant.

performancesParticipants are invited to attend a production of “Denmark,” an exciting 40-minuteadaptation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” on Friday, April 22. On April 23 all participants areinvited to a special reading of a selection of Shakespeare’s works. This reading featuresfaculty members from Grenfell’s English and theatre programs, as well as some invited guests.

transportationAll activities will happen on Grenfell Campus, from between 9 a.m.-11 p.m. All studentsare expected to provide their own transportation to and from campus, though specialarrangements will be made for out-of-town students.

paymentThe fee, $25, is non-refundable. Students (or their guardians) paying by credit or debit cando so at the GO Engagement Office on Grenfell Campus. Those wishing to pay by cashor cheque can do so at the Registration Desk on Wednesday, April 20, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
