Relationship

Dear Friends,We have all heard the expression no man is an island. The idea

that one thrives as part of a larger community shapes the work we

do each day at Providence Center. For individuals to meaningfully

become a part of the greater community and share their gifts,

we forge the partnerships so that those with intellectual and

developmental disabilities can be involved members of their

community, making important contributions and forming the

bonds that will support them on their path in life.

During fiscal year 2015, the individuals we serve continued to build their productive roles in our community. They are growing job skills, exploring career options, taking part in leisure and educational opportunities in the area, and gaining employment. As a company, we continue to develop partnerships with area businesses and individuals to grow the supportive relationships that lead to jobs, full community membership, retail outlets for our products, and donations to support our mission.

We are so grateful for your support this past year. With your help, Providence Center and those we serve will continue to enrich our community for years to come.

A Promise to Our CommunityProvidence Center was created so that those with disabilities would have the chance to learn, grow, and contribute. We continue that commitment today with an emphasis on how each person can live a more independent life, serve their community, and reach their personal goals.

Our focus is on the individual, tailoring supports to their needs and aspirations and building the connections that will help them reach their goals. Through 2015, we:

• Performed significant assessments of speech needs and provided iPads for communication, enabling some individuals to communicate for the first time.

• Continued to empower more individuals to gain employment and build careers in the community. • Partnered with the Maryland Therapeutic Riding program to develop motor skills, core strength, and

the fundamentals for relationship-building. • Continued to focus on the relationship itself and through gentle teaching are nurturing the trust

needed to move beyond the familiar and take steps toward life goals. • Expanded our partnerships with retail businesses that sell our artists’ products. • Formed a lawn care crew that is providing vocational training and positive community experiences. • Invested in new programmatic software that will further facilitate person-centered services.• Accelerated our daily outreach into the community and added adapted vehicles to our fleet to ensure

that all individuals regardless of their mobility needs could regularly engage with their communities.

The individuals we support are making a big impact across our community. In 2015, • Our growers began a floating garden program in partnership with the Magothy River Association and

Anne Arundel Community College to clean our local waterways. • Our individuals volunteered with organizations throughout the county to help others including the

Maryland Food Bank, Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Casey Cares Foundation for Children, The Y in Central Maryland, St. John Neumann Church outreach and through the Kiwanis Aktion Club.

• Those we serve had a greater community presence through jobs, volunteer work, social activities and educational trips, making it easier for others with disabilities to make their own way into the community.

7

Celebrating our Community Partners Providence Center could not do its work without the support of

our community. Our community partners know the importance

of programs that enable those with disabilities to live and work

in the world.

Organizations like Providence Center can fulfill their mission when the community opens up to all of its residents regardless of ability or disability. This takes advocates that know and appreciate the contributions that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have to offer.

Those who employ the men and women we serve, the businesses who retail our pottery and woodwork, the homeowners who use our landscaping services, the donors who support us in so many ways, the customers who buy our products – all of you are building bridges to full community membership for those we serve. You are opening doors, empowering new skills, instilling confidence, and building networks. You are making our community a better place for all.

Financial ReviewThe support of our donors is critical to providing the very best supports for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and to keeping our doors open and our programs accessible for generations to come.
