1/1
The typography, AC/DC is very linear.
The text is used in all of the bands albums
and is their trademark. Furthermore, the
typography is very gothic. Whereas the
lightning bolt between the C and the D
would go against the gothic theme. Thiscould possibly indicate there rebellious
nature. The lightning bolt could also
indicate the bands style; as a new genre
this is because shapes are not often used
in the bands text. The typography could
connote the bands lively and jumpy
playing style. It could also connote the
bands shocking actions or there
controversial music. The electric bolt
would suggest the link with the bands
name and the electrical use of Ac and Dc in
electronics.
Additionally the text colour is red with a
slight white glare. This could connote
murder and blood. However, it could also
connote love or romance. The text is very
central and draws us towards it; it stands
out from the dark background.
The text Highway to Hell is in a different
font to AC/DC. The font is in capitals and
is once again very masculine. The text
however is yellow this would connote,
happiness and sun. This is completely
opposite to the Hell theme: this creates
a juxtaposition.
Highway to Hell is the sixth
studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC,
released in August 1979. It is also AC/DC's fifth
international studio album. The album made it to
number 17 in the US billboard chart during 1979.
The band members are in the centre of the poster.
They are in a vignette. This looks like the devils eye;
possibly about to blink. They are all wearing theirown unique clothing. This shows each members
individuality. There expressions vary from the
angry expression shown by the guy in the white to
the guy who is laughing on the right. He could
possibly be laughing at the devil; this could suggest
that the band laugh in the face of death. The
expressions also show their own individual
personalities.
The poster shows the band being surrounded bydarkness; they are being surrounded by hell itself.
They are all looking at the viewer other than the
guy on the right laughing at the devil (direct
address). This is further portrayed by the devil in
the centre of the frame with the horns coming out
of his head. He is also holding the devils tail. This is
possibly suggesting that this album is a Highway to
hell rather than them going on the highway to hell.
This would suggest the mixed expressions.
The poster could also have political meaning as the
Highway could be life which is leading us to hell
towards the end of it. However, it could also be
about the ups and downs that AC/DC had to take to
get up to where they are now in rock and roll; it's
not actually a highway, its their struggle in being a
rockstar. Additionally, the lead singer died after
this so this could possibly be him expressing the
negative highway or paththat he was following.
