Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was established in 1990, as

per Act 31, 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu, as a Teaching-

cum-Affiliated University. The University has been named after

Prof. P. Sundaram Pillai (1855-1897), the Tamil poet literate and

renowned late 19th century writer who authored the famous verses of

the drama ‘MANONMANIAM’. The University caters to the needs of

three southern districts in Tamil Nadu viz. Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and

Kanyakumari. Dr. M. Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,

formally inaugurated the University on 7th September, 1990. It is

recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

About eighty thousand students study in the various university

departments and its eighty affiliated colleges, which include one

constituent and government college. Manonmaniam Sundaranar

University is among the pioneering institutions that offer the

Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS). The courses and research

Admission Procedures

Rapid changes have transformed the world which now seems to resemble a global village. Information and

knowledge are growing at a breathtaking speed and form the very crux of this new scenario.

Now, conventional disciplines and fields of study have to address the challenges posed by these changes. More importantly,

students in pursuit of jobs in a competitive market are making newer demands on the educational system. A university,

which, by definition, is situated at the frontiers of knowledge, needs to face such challenges squarely.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University has responded to these new challenges by introducing the Choice-Based Credit

System (CBCS) – a system which is used in many of the world’s most acclaimed universities.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is the first university in Tamil Nadu to implement the CBCS in a full-fledged

manner. As pioneers in the world of education, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University is set to demolish disciplinary

strait-jackets.

What is the payment procedure?

• Students who passed in 10+2 or equivalent from any other Board/College/University other than Tamil Nadu

State Board will have to pay an amount of Rs. 500/- by means of DD payable to Registrar, Manonmaniam

Sundaranar University, payable at Tirunelveli.

• Students who have passed 10+2 from Tamil Nadu State Board should pay Rs. 300/- (not Rs. 500/-) by

means of DD payable to Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, payable at Tirunelveli.

What are the documents that need to be attached with the forms?

Section III: Application for Eligibility and Recognition Certificate (ERC):

Before applying for admission, the student has to apply for Eligibility and Recognition Certificate to ensure that

he/she is eligible to apply for the MS University degree course.

ERC fees paid through DD drawn in the favour of THE REGISTRAR, MANONMANIAM SUNDARANAR

UNIVERSITY, payable at TIRUNELVELI, from any Nationalised Banks/Scheduled Banks. Students pay all fees

in DD in Rupees individually, no consolidations of DDs allowed.

Application to the courses offered by the University should be made in the prescribed application form.

Instructions must be carefully read and strictly followed.

Candidates should furnish ATTESTED (by a gazetted officer or a person holding equivalent rank) photocopies of the

original mark-sheet and original Transfer Certificate.

A demand draft of Rs. 500/- must be drawn from any Nationalised/Scheduled Bank in favour of Registrar,

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, payable at TIRUNELVELI. Alternatively, payment of Rs. 500 in cash can be

made at any on-site Academic Campus of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, as the application and prospectus

fee will also be included along with the form.

An incomplete application form and failure to append the stipulated documents may result in rejection of admission.

Any document sent separately or after submission of the application will not be considered.
