    Updated 04/2./2010: After doin' t#is a few ti&es and readin' so&e of t#e userco&&ents, I+*e reali ed t#at you don+t need to use U etbootin( It won+t #urt anyt#in',

    ust a couple e tra steps(

    After a normal restart yesterday, my Aspire One booted into just a black screen. No POST,no BIOS, no hard dri e li!ht acti ity, just the po"er button #$% on and the fan runnin!fast. I "as not ery happy&

    I "ent to the Acer Aspire One 'ser (orum and started lookin! thru the )ard"are section. Ifound this thread %ead aspire one and it looked like many others had a similar e*perience.After readin! many stories of "arranty repair or replacement, I "as just about to di! upmy receipts "hen I found this post+ e+ %ead aspire one .It seems that a lot of people had success reflashin! the BIOS from a 'SB dri e usin! toolspro ided by Acer. I don-t kno" if it-s officially supported by Acer or if it "ill oid your"arranty, but if the computer-s a paper"ei!ht no" any"ay, "hat the hell

    It-s ery easy to do, but the steps are a bit unclear so here-s my attempt to make the"hole thin! painless. This "orked for me, but it mi!ht not for you, so do this at your o"nrisk.

    /ou need+ A "orkin! 'SB thumbdri e you can erase. I used an old 01me!. 'Netbootin. %o"nload from here+ http+22unetbootin.sourcefor!e.net2 The files to flash the BIOS. I used the most recent ersion from

    here+ http+22macles.blo!spot.com2p2acer3aspire3one3bios.html

    %o"nload all the files to an easy to find location.

    Steps to prepare the 'SB dri e+ (ormat the 'SB dri e usin! the (AT file system, not (AT45. Start 'Netbootin and choose (ree%OS as the distribution. Screenshot here. 'n6ip the BIOS files and copy them to the 'SB dri e 7ake a copy of the BIOS file and rename it as 89:IA45.(% ;this appears to be

    ery important < my reflash failed until I did the copy = rename>

    eflash the BIOS+ 7ake sure the AAO is turned off, the battery is attached and the po"er adaptor is

    plu!!ed in. Insert the 'SB dri e Press and hold (N ? $S@ and press the po"er button to turn it on. elease the (n

    = $S@ keys. The #$% in the po"er button "ill flash. Press the po"er button a!ain once and "ait. 7ine took 4 minutes, but I-d ad ise

    that you let it sit there for at least : minutes just in case your-s takes lon!er.

    hen the reflashin! is done, the AAO "ill reboot and, hopefully, you-ll be back to normal.

    If it doesn-t "ork, try reflashin! a!ain. The keypress seCuence is a little tricky.

    If the second try doesn-t "ork, then you-ll probably ha e to send it off for repair.

    9ood luckDDD

    @redit and a boatload of thanks to macles.blo!spot.com for the instructions I found andhostin! the BIOS filesDOri!inal instruction from macles+ Acer Aspire One BIOS eco eryUpdated instructions from Acers site (with comments):'pdatin! the BIOS "ill reCuire a 'SB flash dri e ; for&atted to -A3 or -A3 2 > to store theBIOS information on durin! the update.
