About the survey• The report was compiled through both email and telephone enquiries between 21 March and 26 April 2019

• The top 100 most visited UK tourist attractions in 2018 (as compiled by ALVA, the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions) were contacted to participate in the report by Revitalise

• The overall accessibility of each venue for wheelchair users was the most important factor considered, accounting for up to 70% of the total mark

• The other factors measured (with up to 5% of the total mark each) were:

- Whether the venue was free or offered concessions for

disabled people and carers

- The number of disabled toilets (as a proportion of total toilets)

- The availability of hoists

- The number of disabled parking spaces (as a proportion of

total parking spaces)

- The accessibility of the approach to the venue Numbers of staff with disability awareness training

• Three other pieces of information were also included:

- Whether all the essential accessibility information requested by Revitalise was also available on the venue’s website- Whether the venue was housed in a listed or heritage building, which can sometimes make full accessibility difficult to achieve- Whether the venue was a castle or ship, resulting in significant barriers to full accessibility

At the time of production, 6 venues in the ALVA list had not supplied their data or supplied incomplete data, meaning that Revitalise was unable to include them in the table. These were:

1. Eden Project2. Royal Air Force Museum London3. Edinburgh Zoo 4. Belton House (NT)5. Fountains Abbey and Studley Water Garden6. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre

Notes: The scoring method for disabled toilets and disabled parking spaces enables fair comparison between large and small venues, also (in respect of parking spaces) venues in urban, as opposed to rural, locations.
