LOCKDOWN EXTENSION Lockdown restrictions remain in force in the United Kingdom to continue to reduce the infection rate of the COVID-19 virus. We have not been provided any more information than this, and are unlikely to find out anything further before the government reviews the restrictions again in two weeks’ time. INFORMATION School remains closed until further notice, for most pupils. During the Summer term (until further advised by the Government), school remains open on a skeleton staff to care for vulnerable children and children whose parents are keyworkers in a role critical to the COVID-19 response, AND who have no other option. No child should be in school if they can be cared for at home. The fewer the children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread. Even if you are a key worker, if you are able to work from home your child should remain at home with you. THANK YOU To the parents who have brought us cards and treats. To the parent and child that made us a cake. FOR THE LOVE OF SCRUBS Can you help Rotary provide PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR FRONT LINE WORKERS? Regarding the attached flyer, you can also drop off any donations to the school office, and we will arrange for this to be delivered for you.

INFORMATION

School remains closed until further notice, for most pupils.

THANK YOU

To the parents who have brought us cards and treats.

CONTACTING THE SCHOOL As the school is working on a skeleton staff, the office phones will not always be manned. Please contact the school using the [email protected] e-mail address. Urgent messages will be passed on quickly. BOURNEMOUTH SCHOOL GAMES Our local School Games team has put together lots of resources, fun games and challenges to try to help everyone stay active at home with their families. We hope the following link can give you some ideas to contribute towards your recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day. https://www.yourschoolgames.com/sgo/bournemouth/ FREE SCHOOL MEALS The government have brought in a Free School Meal voucher scheme to provide food for children eligible for Free School Meals, and these are being sent out fortnightly. If your child is eligible for Free School meals and you have not confirmed the e-mail address you require the vouchers to be sent please e-mail [email protected] to confirm to which email address you would like the vouchers sent to. The scheme is not open to children who are eligible for the Universal Free School Meal only (which is open to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 only). Aldi has now been added to the list of supermarkets you can use these in. If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals and have not applied with the local authority, please see further details by following the below link: https://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/childreneducation/Schools/FreeSchoolMeals.aspx WALLISDOWN ROAD The next phase of the major infrastructure improvements at Wallisdown start on Monday 11 May. Originally due to take place at the start of April, the works will see Wallisdown Road closed between the junctions of Alton Road and Talbot Drive to enable a full depth reconstruction of the existing carriageway from Boundary Roundabout to Fern Barrow Road PRAYER Loving God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life: grant us to walk in his way, to rejoice in his truth, and to share his risen life; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen

PARENTS, CAN YOU HELP THE NHS, CARE HOMES AND DOCTOR’S SURGERIES? Helen Richardson of For the Love of Scrubs has only been in the position for one week and contacted Rotary because she needs help to provide PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR FRONT LINE WORKERS. The need is NOW – not TOMORROW. She is working very closely with Bournemouth and Poole hospitals and care staff to co-ordinate any help. What help does she need?

1. Needs as much cotton fabric that can be obtained for her 700 stitchers making scrubs at the moment as they are running out of fabric to use. The fabric must be cotton and suggestions are sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers – as long as they are clean – they can be utilised. Anyone can donate cotton fabric to help by dropping off at the two local collection points which are: Lloyds Hotel Richard Burnett West Hill Road 282 Malmesbury Park Road Bournemouth Bournemouth BH2 5PH BH8 8PR Tel: 07717 682181 Tel: 07786 566181

2. Drivers needed to collect fabric from the local collection point above in Bournemouth and deliver to stitchers addresses in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area and collect finished products to take back to distribution depots (address to be advised) Postcodes of all volunteer drivers will be required to match up nearest collection/delivery points to their postcodes.

3. Funding is always required for any project and any amount would help to buy additional

cotton and needles and, if necessary, more fabric. Funds can be paid to the following fundraising page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/for-the-love-of-scrubs-south-dorset?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link-tip&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet

So – we are hoping that this call to the local area will motivate volunteers to offer help in any of the above ways to fill this desperate need in our area. Let us react NOW and make a DIFFERENCE Richard Burnett Rotary Club of Westbourne You can contact me by e-mail at [email protected] Or by mobile phone on 07786 566181
