Established on 15th August,1969 under the efforts of Lt. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Vikram Sarabhai
With the motto of "Space technology in the Service of humankind.” ISRO have launched 82 Indian Satellites
Since from Aryabatta (1975) to IRNSS-1F(2016), ISRO travelled along with a vast space missions.
Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram is the largest ISRO base and the first Indian launch vehicle SLV-3 was launched from here
ISRO SATELLITE SYSTEM AND LAUNCHERS ISRO has established two major satellite system:
1. INSAT (Indian National Satellite System)2. IRS (Indian Remote Sensing Satellites)
ISRO has successfully developed a complete array of launch vehicles launchers like:
1. SLV-3( Satellite Launch Vehicle)2. ASLV(Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle)3. PSLV(Polar Satellite Launch vehicle)4. GSLV(Geo –Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle)
SATELLITES LAUNCHED BY THE ISRO IN THE YEAR 1975-1990 ARYABHATA
Launched on 19th April 1975 Launch vehicle was U-11 Interkosmos India's 1st satellite launched for active technological experience
BHASKARA-1 Launched on 7th June,1979 Launch vehicle was C-1 Interkosmos First experimental remote sensing satellite(47W)
ROHINI Launched on 10th August,1979 Launch vehicle was SLV-3 Intended for measuring in-flight performance of SLV-3
INSAT-1A Launched on 10th August,1979 Launch vehicle was SLV-3(6 months) First operational communication and meteorology satellite.
INSAT-1B Launched on 30th August,1983 Launch vehicle was Shuttle PAM-D Same as INSAT-1A but served for 7years
IRS-1A Launched on 17th March,1988 Launch vehicle was Vostok First operational remote sensing satellite.
INSAT-1C Launched on 21st July,1988 Launch vehicle was Ariane-3 Served for only one-and-a-half years.
INSAT-1D Launched on 12th June,1990 Launch vehicle was Delta 4925 More advanced and better in design. Still in service
SATELLITES LAUNCHED BY THE ISRO IN THE YEAR 1991-2000 IRS-1B
Launched on 29th August,1991 Launch vehicle was Vostok Earth observation satellite. Improved version of IRS-1A
SROSS-C Launched on 20th May,1992 Launch vehicle was ASLV Carried gamma ray astronomy and aeronomy payload
INSAT-2C Launched on 7th December,1995 Launch vehicle was Ariane-44L H10-3 Service and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries
Oceansat-1 Launched on 26th May,1999 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C2(11 yrs) Carries OCM and MSMR
SATELLITES LAUNCHED BY THE ISRO IN THE YEAR 2001-2010 TES
Launched on 22th October ,2001 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C3 To test technologies such as attitude and orbit control system
Kalpana-1(METSAT) Launched on 12th September,2002 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C4 First meteorological satellite built by ISRO
RESOURCESAT-1 Launched on 17h October,2003 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C5 Earth observation/remote sensing satellite
EDUSAT Launched on 20th October,2004 Launch vehicle was GSLV-F01 India’s first exclusive educational satellite
HAMSAT Launched on 5th May,2005 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C6 Satellite-based amateur radio services
INSAT-4CR Launched on 2th September,2007 Launch vehicle was GSLV-F04 Provide DTH television services
Chandrayaan-1 Launched on 22th October,2008 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C11 Unmanned lunar probe. Carries 11 scientific instruments
StudSat Launched on 12th July,2010 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C15 First Indian pico-satellite (weighing less than 1 kg)
SATELLITES LAUNCHED BY THE ISRO IN THE YEAR 2011-2016 RESOURCESAT-2
Launched on 20th April,2011 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C16 Placed 3 satellites with a total payload mass of 1404 kg
GSAT-8/INSAT-4G Launched on 21st May,2011 Launch vehicle was Ariane-5 VA-202 Carries 24 Ku-band transponders and 2 channel GAGAN
Jugnu Launched on 12th October,2011 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C18 Nano-satellite weighing 3 kg developed by IIT Kanpur
RISAT-1 Launched on 26th April,2012 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C19 1ST weather Radar Imaging Satellite
SARAL Launched on 25th Feburary,2013 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C20 Satellite with ARGOS and ALTIKA (SARAL)
Mars Orbitor Mission(MOM) Launched on 5th July,2013 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C25 India's first Mars orbiter
Astrosat Launched on 28th September,2015 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C30 India’s first dedicated multi wavelength space Observatory
IRNSS-1E & IRNSS-1F Launched on 20th January & 10th March,2016 Launch vehicle was PSLV-C31 & PSLV-C32 5TH & 6TH satellite in the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System
FUTURE MISSIONS OF ISRO
ISRO plans to launch a number of New-Generation Earth Observation Satellites in the near future plus the development of new launch vehicles and spacecraft(AVATAR)
Till date ISRO has launched 82 Indian Satellites(33 satellites missions in next two years )
Plans for Extra-terrestrial exploration such as Moon exploration(Chandrayaan-2), Venus exploration(VOM), Solar exploration programme(Aditya-1)
Future launch vehicles such as Reusable Launch Vehicle-Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD), Unified Launch Vehicle(ULV) the replacement of the PSLV, GSLV Mk I/II and GSLV Mk III
SAARC Satellite is a proposed communication-cum-meteorology satellite (December 2016)
NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) is a joint project between NASA and ISRO (first dual band radar imaging satellite)
