2. rain containing acids that form in the atmosphere when industrial gas emissions (especially sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides) combine with water 3. Airpollution is a mixture of natural and man-made substances in the air we breathe such as fine particles produced by the burning of fossil fuels, ground-level ozone, which is a reactive form of oxygen that is a primary component of urban smog, and noxious gases such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and chemical vapors 4. the primary cause of acid rain is the emission of harmful gases and emissions by industrial power plants and factories, and to some extent, cars as well. In particular, the burning of fossil fuels, emits some gases that gives oxides of sulfur and nitrogen. Even the burning of gasoline and diesel in cars build the amount of acidified water droplets in the atmosphere. The major causes are man-made, so it is our responsibility to come up with the solutions as well. 5. The effects are unhealthy and harmful. Buildings, national monuments and bridges tend to deteriorate faster. But the biggest reason to find satisfactory solutions is the damage to natural ecosystems. This rain will affect the plants, trees, rivers, lakes, soil and land wherever it may fall on. As a result of this the various animals and plants that live in that area will be severely affected. Their food sources will get diminished, they may develop unhealthy diseases or mutations, or they may even die in extreme cases. 6. the pollutants that cause acid rainsulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides do damage human health. These gases interact in the atmosphere to form fine sulfate and nitrate particles that can be transported long distances by winds and inhaled deep into people's lungs. When we breathe in air pollution, these very fine particulates can easily enter our body, where they can cause breathing problems (asthma), bronchitis and over time even cause skin cancer. 7. To solve the acid rain problem, people need to understand how acid rain damages the environment. They also need to understand what changes could be made to the air pollution sources that cause the problem. 8. the amount of sulfur oxides emitted by a power plant can be reduced by burning coal with a very low percentage of sulfur present 9. Scrubbers remove 80-95 percent of the sulfur oxides. Certain types do not remove nitrogen oxides. They are costly to retrofit to existing power plants. They increase the electric generating costs by 10-15 %. 10. Acid"rain" isn't just rain; acid snow, acid fog or mist, acid gas, and acid dust all have the same effect as acid rain. Lakes and streams are normally acidic, but acid rain can make them so acidic that it damages animal and plants life. Acid rain can cause a mass killing to trees. Area's can become very hazy and foggy due to acid rain. Even people in exceptional health could have their lungs damaged by this acid air. Cars will not melt if they are touched by acid rain, but their paint jobs and coatings can be damaged easily.
