Currently accepting donations for the St. Peter’s Altar Society Country Store which is open during the bazaar on November 23, 2019. This flea-market style space relies on your gifts of gently used household wares, books, crafted and re-gifted items and especially baked goods and candies packaged and ready to sell. Donations may be brought to the school the evening of November 22nd beginning at 5:30pm. EVENTS OF THE WEEK October 12th - 20th English Speaking RE Homework Night: English Speaking RE Homework Night will be at 6:30pm. Homework Nights are required for all St. Peter students preparing to receive a Sacrament this year. Confirmation Candidates will meet in the Parish Hall and Level 1 & Level 2 First Communion Prep students will meet in the Fireside Room. Students will not be excused for sports practices or games. Spanish Speaking Sacramental Prep Classes Begin: Sunday, October 13th at 10:30am to 11:40am in the Fireside Room. Please pick your child up on time our catechists will be going to 12pm Mass and need time to clean up and get to Mass.

We have had a great few weeks. The St. Francis of Assisi Pet Bless-ing was a hit with both our students and their pets. The Jog-a-thon was a success. Thank you to everyone that pledged our students and for those that joined us during the event. Fire Prevention week brought us visits from the Fire Department and Sparky the dog along with a fire engine ride for the 1st graders. We have been busy. Don’t’ forget your full uniforms Wednesday the 16th and Friday the 18th for St. Luke. Good job for all of our walk to schoolers. To keep our students moving and active ever Wednesday will be Walk to School Wednesday’s. Students can join Ms. Vassar and many of the other teachers at the corner of 10th Street and Trevitt to walk to school at 7:15 a.m. This is a fun event we have done for the past few years. St. Mary’s has been the school with the largest student participation for the past two years. Let’s see if we can do it again this year. This is a great and safe way to get exercise and show some school spirit. Each year during the month of October St. Mary’s will be col-lecting clean gently used or new warm coats and socks for those in need. These items will be given to the warming shelter and the food bank to assist those in our community. Please look through your closet and see if you are able to help with this month’s mis-sion of collecting coats and socks for others. A large drop off box is located in the front entrance of the school.
Hemos tenido una gran semana. La bendición de mascotas de San Francisco de Asís fue un éxito tanto para nuestros estudiantes como para sus mascotas. El Jog-a-thon fue un gran éxito. Gracias a todos los que prometieron a nuestros estudiantes y a aquellos que se unieron a nosotros durante el evento. Nuestro primer día de Caminar a la escuela fue el miércoles. From the Pastor’s Desk – Fr. Levine- Last Sunday I began writing about the meaning of God’s rest on the seventh day. I concluded with these words, “True rest is not the mere absence of motion or change, but even more involves the attainment of a goal. So, the seventh day tells us that man was not just created for work in this world, however noble, but that just as God him-self transcends the world, man has been created to transcend the world by resting in God. The sanctification of the seventh day, then, means the sanctification of man through which he is given to share in the holiness of God.” We can expand on this thought if we look at the seventh day precisely as the goal of the trajectory of the first six days. Biblical scholars have observed that the six days are set forth as though God were constructing a house. In the first three days, he sets up the sky as the ‘roof’ of the house and the sea and as the two major ‘rooms’. In the next three days, the ‘roof’ and the ‘rooms’ are furnished, the roof with the lights, and the rooms with the living creatures of sea, sky, and land. The principal ‘resident’ in this house, however, is man, created in the image and likeness of God. Now, in the ancient world, the very idea of a temple was to provide a house for an image of a ‘god’. Seen in this way, the Genesis account of creation rejects all the pagan temples, all the temples of dead idols, because God himself constructed the whole world as a living temple in which he placed his living image. Except in this temple of creation, the living image does not receive worship, but offers worship. Man is set in this temple not as an idol for the rest of creation to worship, but as a priest, through whom all creation can find a voice in the sacrifice of praise returned to God, the Creator. The seventh day reveals man as a priest, offering the sacri-fice of praise. There is also contained here a reflection of the Holy Trinity. Man is not exactly the image of God, but rather he is created in the image of God. The true image is the eternal Son of God, who returns to the Father in the love of the Holy Spirit. So, when God creates man in his image and man returns to God with the sacrifice of praise in the Holy Spirit, it is as though the intra-trinitarian relations are extended into the created world. In this way seventh day represents the eternal ‘rest’ of the Father in the Son and of the Son in the Father; that ‘rest’ is itself the Holy Spirit. Through the sacrifice of praise, man is given to share in that rest. Nevertheless, this original creation was broken by sin. Man turned away from his sacred task, reverted to the sixth day, and sought to make himself the idol of the world. The original creation was broken by sin and this fact should warn us against any excessive glorification of raw ‘nature’, which is the error of much of the environmentalist movement, the religion of ‘Gaia’, or of the ‘Amazon’. In this light we can see that during the history of the Old Testament, every true temple of God and every true sac-rifice was in some way trying to restore the broken creation by setting apart a new ‘house of God’, in which there is no idol, but only a priest offering sacrifice. Temple and sacrifice try to restore the broken creation but cannot really do so because God does not dwell in temples built by human hands. (cf 1 Kg 8:27; Acts 7:47-48; 17:24) So the temple, priesthood, and sacrifice of the Old Testament, even more than being a reflection of the original crea-tion, is a figure pointing forward to the recreation in Christ. Therefore, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God. … let us strive to enter into that rest. (He 4:9, 11) The Body of Christ, crucified and risen, is the beginning of the new creation, the new temple, not made by human hands (cf. Dn 2:34-35, 44-45; Mk 14:58; Jn 2:19), and also the new sacrifice, offered by the new high priest, Jesus Christ, who offers himself upon the Cross and continues to offer himself through the hands of his ministers in the Holy Eucharist. The Body of Christ, risen from the dead is the beginning of the new creation, but in the meantime the old creation waits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. (Rm 8:19-21) That true freedom of the children of God is precisely the freedom to offer to God a worthy sacrifice of praise, the purpose of the whole creation. In the end when all things are made new and God is all in all (cf. Rev 21:5; 1 Cor 15:28), in the heavenly Jerusalem, there will be no temple in the city for its temple is the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb. (Rev 21:22) The Quotable Pope Francis- “Today’s society thirsts for amusement and holidays. The entertainment industry is really flourishing, and advertising portrays the ideal world as one great amusement park where everyone has fun. The prevailing concept of life today does not have its centre of gravity in activity and commitment, but in escapism. Earning money to have fun, to satisfy oneself. The model is the image of a successful person who can afford ample room for diverse forms of enjoyment. But this mentality makes one slip toward the dis-satisfaction of a life anaesthetized by fun that is not rest, but alienation and the escape from reality. Man has never rested as much as today, yet man has never experienced as much emptiness as today!” (General Audi-ence, September 5, 2018)
Desde el Escritorio del párroco El Padre José – El domingo pasado comencé a escribir sobre el significado del descanso de Dios en el séptimo día. Concluí con es-tas palabras: “El verdadero descanso no es la mera ausencia de movimiento o cambio, sino que más aún implica el logro de una meta. Entonces, el séptimo día nos dice que el hombre no solo fue creado para trabajar en este mun-do, por noble que sea, sino que así como Dios mismo trasciende al mundo, el hombre ha sido creado para tras-cender el mundo al descansar en Dios. La santificación del séptimo día, entonces, significa la santificación del hom-bre a través del cual se le da a compartir la santidad de Dios.” Podemos ampliar este pensamiento si miramos el séptimo día precisamente como el objetivo de la trayectoria de la primeros seis días. Los eruditos bíblicos han observado que los seis días se presentan como si Dios estuviera con-struyendo una casa. En los primeros tres días, establece el cielo como el "techo" de la casa y el mar y como las dos "habitaciones" principales. En los próximos tres días, el 'techo' y las 'habitaciones' están amuebladas, el techo con las luces y las habitaciones con las criaturas vivientes del mar, el cielo y la tierra. Sin embargo, el principal 'residente' en esta casa es el hombre, creado a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Ahora, en el mundo antiguo, la idea misma de un templo era proporcionar una casa para la imagen de un "dios". Visto de esta manera, el relato de la creación de Génesis rechaza todos los templos paganos, todos los templos de los ídolos muertos, porque Dios mismo construyó el mundo entero como un templo vivo en el que colocó su imagen viva. Excepto en este templo de la creación, la imagen viva no recibe adoración, sino que ofrece adoración. El séptimo día revela al hombre como sacerdote, ofreciendo el sacrificio de alabanza. También está contenido aquí un reflejo de la Santísima Trinidad. El hombre no es exactamente la imagen de Dios, sino que es creado a imagen de Dios. La verdadera imagen es el Hijo eterno de Dios, que regresa al Padre en el amor del Espíritu Santo. Entonces, cuando Dios crea al hombre a su imagen y el hombre vuelve a Dios con el sacrifi-cio de alabanza en el Espíritu Santo, es como si las relaciones intratrinitarias se extendieron al mundo creado. De esta manera, el séptimo día representa el "descanso" eterno del Padre en el Hijo y del Hijo en el Padre; ese "descanso" es en sí mismo el Espíritu Santo. A través del sacrificio de alabanza, el hombre es dado para compartir ese descanso. Sin embargo, esta creación original fue quebrantada por el pecado. El hombre se apartó de su tarea sagrada, volvió al sexto día y buscó convertirse en el ídolo del mundo. La creación original fue rota por el pecado y este hecho debería advertirnos contra cualquier glorificación excesiva de la 'naturaleza' cruda, que es el error de gran parte del movimiento ambientalista, la religión de 'Gaia' o del 'Amazonas'. Desde este punto de vista, podemos ver que durante la historia del Antiguo Testamento, cada verdadero templo de Dios y cada verdadero sacrificio intentaban de alguna manera restaurar la creación rota al separar una nueva 'casa de Dios', en la cual no hay ídolo, pero solo un sacerdote ofreciendo sacrificio. El templo y el sacrificio intentan restaurar la creación rota, pero no pueden hacerlo porque Dios no habita en templos construidos por manos hu-manas. (cf. 1 Reyes 8:27; Hechos 7: 47-48; 17:24.) De modo que el templo, el sacerdocio y el sacrificio del Antiguo Testamento, incluso más que un reflejo de la creación original, es una figura que apunta hacia el recreación en Cris-to. Un descanso sabático, pues, espera todavía al pueblo de Dios....esforcémonos, pues, para entrar en su descan-so. (Heb 4: 9, 11) El Cuerpo de Cristo, crucificado y resucitado, es el comienzo de la nueva creación, el nuevo templo, no hecho por manos humanas (cf. Dn 2: 34-35, 44-45; Mc 14 : 58; Jn 2:19), y también el nuevo sacrificio, ofrecido por el nuevo sumo sacerdote, Jesucristo, que se ofrece en la Cruz y continúa ofreciéndose a través de las manos de sus min-istros en la Sagrada Eucaristía. El Cuerpo de Cristo, resucitado de entre los muertos, es el comienzo de la nueva creación, pero mientras tanto, la vieja creación espera ansiosamente esta revelación de los hijos de Dios. Ella quedó sujeta a la vanidad, no volunta-riamente, sino por causa de quien la sometió, pero conservando una esperanza. Porque también la creación será liberada de la esclavitud de la corrupción para participar de la gloriosa libertad de los hijos de Dios. (Rm 8: 19-21) Esa verdadera libertad de los hijos de Dios es precisamente la libertad de ofrecer a Dios un digno sacrificio de ala-banza, el propósito de toda la creación. Al final, cuando todas las cosas sean hechas nuevas y Dios lo es todo (cf. Apoc. 21: 5; 1 Cor. 15:28), en la Jerusalén celestial, no habrá templo en la ciudad porque su templo es el Señor Di-os, el Todopoderoso, y el Cordero. La industria de la dis-tracción es muy floreciente y la publicidad diseña el mundo ideal como un gran parque de juegos donde todos se divierten. El concepto de vida hoy dominante no tiene el centro de gravedad en la actividad y en el com-promiso sino en la evasión. Ganar para divertirse, satisfacerse. La imagen-modelo es la de una persona de éx-ito que puede permitirse amplios y diversos espacios de placer. Pero esta mentalidad hace resbalar hacia la insatisfacción de una existencia anestesiada por la diversión que no es descanso, sino alienación y escape de la realidad. El hombre no ha descansado nunca tanto como hoy, ¡Sin embargo el hombre nunca ha experimen-tado tanto vacío como hoy!” (Audiencia General, 5 de septiembre, 2018)
