ObituaryMrs. Mary Kathryn Patton was born on October 17, 1919 and departed this earthly life on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Shewas born to Mr. Willie Jones and Mrs. Charlie Lee Jones in Nashville, Tennessee.

Growing up in Nashville, she attended the Metro School System and graduated from Pearl High School. She continued hereducation and attended Tennessee State University receiving her Bachelors Degree.

The majority of her young work life was spent as an Administrative Assistant for the department of Education at TennesseeState University for approximately thirty five years until her retirement. She could always be counted on to be colorful in herattire and counted on to do excellent work. Mary Kathryn, as she was affectionately called, always went beyond the call of dutyto exceed the normal expectation in every endeavor that she pursued. She had a hearty laugh that would exude warmth wherevershe was. In addition to TSU, she assisted her husband Edward Patton with running Patton Brothers Funeral Home and continuedworking as Co-owner even after his death.

Edward and Mary Kathryn married in 1943 and remained so until his death. They had one son, Jonathan who blessed themwith five grandchildren, of which their first preceded her in death. Mary Kathryn was never the same after the death of her firstgrandson whom she raised almost like a second son. He was more than a grandchild. She put a great many hopes and dreamsin him and it looked as though they would materialize. He died at the beginning of his senior year of high school and aScholarship is given out to this very day, in his name by his former football coach, which gave her great joy.

Mary Kathryn was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church on Albion. She loved her church family and they loved her. Shewas a member of the Ninettes Social Club and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the sisterhood was extremely significant to her.

Mary Kathryn was predeceased by her parents, siblings, spouse, and grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jonathan (Evangeline) Patton, devoted nephew/POA, Bernard (Shelia) Jones; fourgrandchildren, Chelsea Bryanton, Delexus, Xavier and Josiah Patton; nephews, Milton (Donella), Michael (Valerie), Larry (Anita);sisters-in-law, Lucille Patton Blakemore, Louise Patton, co-owner, Alphonso Patton; special friends: Dr. Dolores Mathis, Mrs.Lillie Bowman, Mrs. Minnie Pearl Davis and Reverend Georgia Moody, Staff of Patton Brothers Funeral Home and a host of others.
