A Message for Mr. LaMar
In 7th grade when I first came to Tohickon, Mr. LaMar was just my band teacher. By the time 9th grade graduation came by, he became my closest friend, role model, and mentor. Not only did he help develop my passion for music, Mr. LaMar also guided me as a person. When I reflect on myself, I know that I wouldn't be who I am or where I am without him; and I am sure countless people could say the same. Even people who didn't know Mr. LaMar that well say that there was just an aura about him which made him a great, loving person. I'll never forget the happiness he spread with the telling of his infamous Muffin Joke, or just by his smile. His impact on this world and the community around him is immeasurable and eternal.

A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.

Brief cover page detailing required personal information & 3 short answer questions
1-2 page reflection by the applicant
1 page testimonial from an individual other than a CB music teacher
2016 Recipient — Kathleen O’Connor Kathleen O’Connor is a senior at Central Bucks High School South where she has been heavily involved in the music program. As a flute player she has been a member of the marching, concert and symphonic bands. Kathleen has also sung in the Symphonic Chorale and Women’s Ensemble, and been an active member of the Titan Thespians theater troupe. She has committed to Lebanon Valley College where she will be majoring in Audio and Music Production
Kathleen’s musical service outside of school illustrates her willingness to give freely of her time and talent. She performs at church and also sings at a local nursing home during the holidays. Perhaps most impressively, however, is that Kathleen has taken it upon herself to perform for an elderly woman who lives alone after losing her daughter in a car accident.
In her reflection, Kathleen states, “Music is the backbone to my life. If I’m not making music, I’m probably listening to
music. I know the theory, I know the industry. Music is what I want to do as a career for the rest of my life.” After
much debate and careful consideration of all applicants the evaluation committee believed unanimously that Kathleen
best exemplified the core principals outlined in the scholarship application and embodied the personal qualities that
best represent the “spirit” of the award. She is truly a deserving recipient of this year’s Ronald W. LaMar Memorial
Scholarship.
