Employment and career solutions

It’s what sets us apart from our competitors. Our Job Advantage program has three key areas:

1. ACN Job Ready Program.

2. ACN Internship Program.

3. ACN Graduate Employment Placement.

Each one is designed to build on the other so that all ACN students have opportunities to gain valuable professional experience throughout their academic career and beyond.

Internship program“We get you working before you even graduate!”This service improves students’ employment opportunities by providing them with a structured voluntary unpaid employment opportunity in a meaningful position either during, or immediately after, studying at ACN.

ACN places students in jobs directly related to their studies. Interns are carefully matched to their disciplines and areas of interest or specialization where possible.

Students work in a variety of industries within their areas of study for example a student studying a double major in Finance and Marketing who is keen to work in finance within a marketing environment may be placed in a Finance Department within a Marketing Communications Company. Students wishing to become Accountants within Public Practice may be placed within an Accounting firm in Public Practice, rather than in commerce. Students studying International business may be placed in a company which operates in freight and logistics or transportation. Other industries include hospitality, construction and legal industry.

ACN has a commitment to providing work opportunities to our students and our graduates. It is part of our

drive to increase the employment prospects and “job-ready” skills for ACN Graduates.

Graduate Employment PlacementGraduate employment Placement program is available to students who are coming towards the end of their degree and who are looking to enter the workforce and to secure their first job.

Students are required to book an appointment with a Consultant to register and be provided with a ‘starter kit’. This contains details of

Job search strategies for graduates.•

Details of statutory rights and • explanations of industrial awards which a graduate may be covered by.

Diary management information•

List of job websites and regularly view•

List of recruitment agencies • within their specialization

Students are assessed on their resume provided and if necessary referred to the seminar for upgrading, after a resume is accepted for Graduate Employment Placement, consultants and graduates are ready to work together in finding work that suits the graduates.

Weekly emails are sent to all registered students and graduates notifying them of events in industry, job tips and vacancies found which are suitable for students and graduates to apply for.

How internships workThe internship placement is available to students who have completed at least three semesters of their Bachelor studies and the Job Ready program. For a small fee, an external consultant places our students in jobs related to their studies. Companies may provide a written reference but this depends on company policy. The internship duration varies from one placement to the other. The time and length of internship is to be arranged via Consultant and is dependent upon student availability and the discretion of the company and its managers.

Student must register with Consultant on Campus to be provided with information and details of programs, also to secure places on Seminars, places must be booked at reception as places are limited to 15 places per Seminar.

Job ready programACN students are able to attend free employment seminars throughout the semester. To help students better develop their portfolio of skills that make them “JobReady”.

Some of the topics of the employment seminars held are:

1. How to prepare “a market ready” resume which is important and powerful.

2. Network & Self Marketing in the job market.

3. How to interview successfully.

Situated on one of the world’s most beautiful and natural harbours, Sydney provides a unique outdoor lifestyle, offering a variety of alfresco dining venues, parks and an exhaustive choice of outdoor leisure activities. ‘Sydneysiders’ also have access to more than 70 beaches spread along the city’s coastline.

Sydney’s natural beauty is enhanced by the rich and vibrant arts and entertainment scene with new concerts, opera, jazz, theatre and cinema regularly available. The many lively shopping and dining precincts (including its very own Chinatown) offer variety and ensure you’ll never be bored.

Above all, Sydney is home to a relaxed and friendly community who live, work and play together in this unique international city.

ClimateSydney has a temperate climate. The warmest months are January and February, with temperatures between 18 and 36 degrees. The coldest months are June and July however daytime temperatures rarely fall below 10 degrees. The average rainfall is 1,200mm per year and average humidity is 62%.

Cost of livingLiving in Australia is cost effective when compared to other western countries. Sydney caters for all socio-economic

groups. Your budget will depend on the type of lifestyle you choose and the location of your accommodation. We anticipate that an international student will require approximately AU$13,000 – AU$16,000 for living expenses each year (not including tuition fees).

Below is a guide to basic living expenses:

Rent: $150 - $450 per week•

Coffee: $3 - $4•

Bus ticket: $15 – $30 per week•

Sandwich: $7•

Hot lunch: $8•

Part time employment: • $15 – $20 per hour

Sydney is a vibrant, internationally recognised city. With a population of four million people from over

180 countries and speaking over 140 languages, it is truly multicultural.

Business education in the heart of SydneyA student city like no other

“I recommend studying at ACN as it is in a city centre location, has small class sizes and has the fast track – 3 semesters per year. Before coming to Sydney, I was studying English at the University of Queensland. I found it easy to make friends at ACN with the small class sizes and having access to lecturers and staff. I also enjoyed the extra workshops and the student to student mentoring. I hope to find a full time job in the finance field once graduated. Enjoy studying at ACN!”Akane Honda, Japan Bachelor of Business in Finance.
