Point drain positioned within bathroom and shower channel within shower area. Level floors can be utilized as Point drain will drain any overflow from shower.

One-way slope towards wall creates possible risk of bypass – slope of bathroom floor towards shower is recommended to prevent bypass. Channel length should fit shower opening.

One-way slope - towards wall - no risk of bypass.

Point drain positioned within shower area. Floors must be graded appropriately or other barriers used to prevent water flow into bathroom.

Technical & planning considerations

ACO Showerdrain channels have an outflow up to 0.85 L/S (13.5 GPM). This value assumes no head of water above top of grate.

ACO Showerdrain Point drains have an outflow of up to 0.85 L/S (13.5 GPM).

The addition of a grate can throttle the intake of water into the channel body and slow the flow of water to the outlet.

Note:The premium QuARTz range of shower channels offers a custom solution if required.

Accumulation and slopesCSA B79.08 (R2013) requires a 50 mm (2") outlet for shower applications. ACO shower drain channels have this as standard. The flow for a 50 mm (2") outlet varies depends upon the head of water above the grating.

In the case of shower channels, a head of water is not typical in practice—due to shallow floor grades. Point drains can have a head of water due to ‘basin’ profile of the floor.

Flow values without accumulation (head of water) should be used when shower channels are placed around the perimeter of the shower and no shower threshold step used.

If shower channel is installed against a wall, or in a valley (2 way slope), there may be a small amount of accumulation (head of water) depending—on the layout of the shower area. Grade of shower floor will determine depth of accumulation.

Outflow performanceChoice of shower channel generally depends on the flow values of the shower heads. 70% of shower heads have a maximum capacity of less than 0.19 L/S (3 GPM).

1. When altering floor joists, consult Structural Engineer

for advice and reinforce floor joists as advised.

2. Frame out shower surround as required.

3. Connect base of PVC CPE membrane body to pipe

work, leave drain bolts in place. Block drain opening

to prevent floor mortar from entering.

4. Trowel mortar onto sub-floor, ensuring recommended

2% slope to drain.

5. Install waterproofing membrane per manufacturer's

recommendations. Seal membrane to PVC CPE

flange body underneath.

6. Install top section of CPE flange outlet adapter.

7. Test membrane for leaks.

8. Position threaded/rubber push-fit coupling in PVC

CPE membrane body at correct position/ height.

9. Solvent weld shower channel pipe to threaded

coupling/push channel spigot into rubber coupling

(using dish detergent to assist fit), at correct floor

orientation.

10. Cut plastic installation feet to height to rest on

membrane and keep shower channel stable.

11. Trowel mortar to required height, allow for

thickness of tile and thinset mortar, grade to create

minimum 2% slope towards drain.

12. After floor mortar has cured, apply thinset and install

tile and grout.

13. Install grate into shower channel.
