    The automation and telecontrol device ACOS

    750 from IDS is a powerful system which fulfils

    the most stringent requirements. The system

    has a modular structure and can be scaled ac-

    cording to requirements. For this purpose, wide-

    range power supply units, powerful CPU modu-

    les and a wide range of I/O modules are availa-ble which can be installed both centrally and de-

    centrally on the basis of EtherCAT technology.

    Sophisticated and comprehensive communica-

    tion solutions and an integrated PLC based on

    CoDeSys V3 complete the profile of this versa-

    tile and powerful telecontrol device.

    IDS GmbH has expanded the ACOS family by

    the two compact RTUs ACOS 710 and ACOS

    720. These RTUs can be easily integrated into

    existing SCADA systems, thus providing a clear-

    ly defined and cost-efficient solution for different

    areas of decentralized energy generation

    (photovoltaic installations, thermal power sta-

    tions, biogas plants) and for the upgrading of

    automation systems in medium- and low-voltage

    systems.

    The decentralized generation, distribution and

    storage of energy from renewable sources can

    be controlled and monitored by means of intelli-

    gent power grids (Smart Grids), thereby ensu-

    ring a secure power supply despite the volatility

    of these resources.

    ACOS 710 and 720 have been specially desi-

    gned to meet the requirements related to distri-

    buted energy resources (DER), as well as those

    resulting from the German Renewable Energy

    Act (EEG) and the German Heat-Power Coge-

    neration Act (KWKG).

    ACOS 710

    The compact RTU ACOS 710 serves as a star-

    ting tool with a defined function and performan-ce range, and has the following features:

    Plastic housing for direct mounting on

    TS35 mounting rail

    Two serial RS232 interfaces

    One network interface

    Integrated Quad-band GSM/GPRS modem

    (optional)

    Comprehensive communication applications

    for telecontrol and field bus protocols

    microSD Card for data storage and archiving

    Integrated I/O level with

    4 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs,

    2 analog inputs and 1 analog output

    Supply voltage: 24V DC or 230V AC.

    ACOS 720

    The compact telecontrol and automation device

    ACOS 720 additionally features an integrated

    PLC for small-scale automation tasks and can

    be expanded by additional I/O modules. It has

    the following features:

    Programming acc. to IEC 61131-3

    Connection of up to eightcompact I/O modules via EtherCAT

    Supply voltage: 24V DC

    Communication

    Thanks to the wide range of data transmission

    possibilities, ACOS 710 and ACOS 720 can be

    universally used for telecontrol applications.

    Communication can be done via the following

    protocols resp. means of communication:

    IEC 60870-5-101 Master/Slave

    IEC 60870-5-104 Client/Server

    IEC 60870-5-103 Master

    Modbus RTU Master/Slave

    Modbus TCP Client

    NTP time synchronisation

    PPP connections

    SMS

    M-BUS and Wireless M-Bus*

    In this context, various data transmission facili-

    ties, including TETRA, HF radio relay systems,

    HDSL etc., can be used for data communication.

    To ensure the secure data communication via

    internet (DSL or GPRS), ACOS 710 and ACOS

    720 can be used as Open VPN Client to estab-

    lish a link with an OpenVPN Server, for the

    transmission of data via the IEC 60870-5-104

    protocol.

    Parameterization and Diagnostics

    The ACOS ET engineering tool is available for

    parameterization and diagnostics, both locally

    via an USB or network interface, or for remote

    parameterization via the data transmission in-

    frastructure.

    Programming of the integrated PLC is done via

    CoDeSys V3.

    As an option, it is possible to store the parame-

    terization data and archived values on a mi-

    croSD Card, thereby facilitating the exchange of

    faulty devices without parameterization tools.
