Audiences are in for something a little bit different and definitely amusing when Galactic presents Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer and Jay Foreman at Coburgs on March 21st. Be prepared for an evening of highly entertaining wordage and music.

Mr B is a self-styled ‘Chap Hop’ Hip Hop artist who performs his terribly posh ‘Queen’s English’ rhymes in a hip hop fashion on topics such as pipe-smoking, high society, cricket and sexual mis-adventure. GET THE GIGFinals for this year’s ‘Get The Gig’ competition organised by a family run group of Isle of Wight freehouse pubs and Isle of Wight Radio will be an integral part of the Acoustic Isle Festival.

With the last qualifying heat of the contest to be held at Ventnor’s famous Spyglass Inn on March 13th, and the final at the Bargeman’s Rest on Newport Quay on March 20th, ‘Get The Gig’ will see the winner/s rewarded with a year of gigs at the four pubs hosting the

competition, which also include The Dairyman’s Daughter in Arreton and the Steamer Inn on Shanklin seafront.

All have a long standing commitment to live music year round with bands, duos and solo artists playing gigs up to 7 days a week in high season within their welcoming, warm family pubs that also offer hearty food and a great selection of ales.

said Andrew Gibbs of the Bargeman’s Rest in Newport. “We get a really wide range of entrants from shanty singers to pop groups.”

All gigs are free and special ‘Get the Gig’ menus are offered.

In 1969, just after plugging in his acoustic guitar, Bob Dylan played the Isle of Wight Festival rather than Woodstock and around 120,000 people came. Then in 1970 over 600,000 fans descended onto the Island to see, amongst others, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and The Who.

John Giddings of Solo was invited to revive the event in 2002 and has put the Island back on the music map with the Isle of Wight Festival every June and since then the legendary

Festival has played host to some of the biggest acts in the world.

Then Bestival joined the party in 2004 with Radio One DJ Rob da Bank curating a magi-cal, music & arts, fancy dress themed festival that is held every September.
