Beginning in 2019, the Medicarepayment system will change.Physicians and practices need toprepare now in order to besuccessful within the Quality PaymentProgram. With the elimination of theSustainable Growth Rate (SGR), thenew value-based payment programfor Medicare was designed with thegoal of replacing volume-based fee-for-service payment over time.Private payers also have moved inthe direction of incentivizing higherquality rather than only the volume of services. Without a clearunderstanding of how care will bemeasured and paid for, physiciansrisk losing revenue and reputation. This course will help practices of allsizes understand this paradigm shiftand how to succeed in the newenvironment.
Attendees will take a deep dive intounderstanding the Quality PaymentProgram, including how practiceswill be scored and paid in both theadvanced Alternative PaymentModels (APMs) and Merit-BasedIncentive Payment System (MIPS)pathways. The agenda will discuss

The agenda will addressstrategies for all four MIPScategories—quality, improvementactivities, advancing careinformation, and cost.
Who should attend: clinicians, medical directors, CMOs, CMIOs,quality managers, administrators, andany staff who administers the QualityPayment Program for a practice.

the time of the evaluation. Multipleprocedures, such as peripheral andcentral line placement, joint andtendon aspiration and injection,thora/ paracentesis, and pericardio-centesis along with others, benefitfrom ultrasound guidance.
Point-of-care echo is a quick way toestimate ejection fraction and volumestatus, assess for severe structuralchanges, and rule out a pericardialeffusion. Point-of-care abdominalultrasound is a rapid way to detectfree air, gallbladder disease, andaortic disease. Additional clinicalquestions ultrasound may help youanswer are: Is that a simple cellulitis orone complicated by an underlyingabscess that needs drainage? Howdeep is the abscess? Can it be drainedsafely in the office/bedside or theoperating room? Is that lump you pal-pate on exam solid, cystic, or vascular?
Hear lectures from national experts onpoint-of-care ultrasound and learnevidence-based approaches andtechniques. Ample hands-on learning, guided by seasoned clinicians whouse ultrasound in their practices on adaily basis, will be augmented bysimulation experience, includingprocedure practice on phantoms, aswell as amazing computer-basedsimulation presenting actual patientpathology and allowing attendees tolearn from real clinical scenarios.
If you have heard of other fieldsembracing ultrasound and how itimproves their practice and areinterested in increasing efficiencyand safety in your own practice, thiscourse is a great place to start.
