  • 1.2 Sabre ETAS Overview

SabreSonic Check-in on the ACSI Platform has the capability to interface with ETAS (Electronic Travel Authority System) and allow you to apply for, to receive and to check the validity of visas for Australia.

The check-in process automatically alerts you that the passenger(s) is traveling to a destination within Australia. This informational alert advises you that ETAS validation is required. In order for the validation prompt to take place the flight must have been set up indicating that passport documentation is required. (This means the DOC element in the Flight Information display (GFI*) must be set to Y (Yes) for the concerned destination.)

The passport data is then used by ETAS to check the validity of the passenger(s) visa. The validation process for multiple passengers is on a per passenger basis.

Once the ETAS validation has occurred and ACSI is notified that the passenger holds a valid visa, the boarding pass is printed with the wording ETAS.

If ETAS provides a negative response back (this would be anything other than OK to Board), ACSI continues with checking in the passenger and provides you with a prompt to check a special VI edit for the failure reason. You should make the necessary corrections; you can print the boarding pass using the G#BP command. It is important to note that the G#BP command will print the boarding pass even if the passenger VI edit contains a negative response. A negative response will print the text UNBL on the boarding pass. The negative response could be the result of the passenger not holding a valid visa, ETAS is down, or the communication link between Sabre and ETAS is down.

The exception to the ETAS processing is for passengers holding Australian (AU) or New Zealand (NZ) passports. These passengers are not required to hold an AU visa and you will only be required to input the passport details. The boarding pass will print **** instead of ETAS for AU/NZ passport holders. The VI edit is created in these cases indicating a positive response of OK.

  • 1.3 ETAS Verification Basic Check-In

Use the normal entry check-in entry to generate an ETAS validation

    Example format: G-TERRIER1M1/10BNEY/N

    Example response:

    YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R REQ DOCS/VISA END

As passport details are required and these details are not already present in the passenger record (PP edit code), the system responds with a prompt for this information to be entered.

The normal entry is made. Example: G-1/PP-US121212/21MAY63/M

    Example response:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R REQ VISA VISA VALIDATION IN PROGRESS PLEASE WAIT END

Note that in the response, it indicates that validation is in progress.

    Response from ETAS:

    YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R N * 10C# BT PP VI **ETAS OK TO BOARD** END

The passenger has been successfully checked-in and ETAS has confirmed the passenger is acceptable and OK to board. A seat number has been allocated and a boarding pass issued. An automatic VI edit has been applied to the passenger.

Note: ETAS validation will occur automatically if passport data already exists in the passenger record and a single name check-in transaction is performed.

Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc. May 2006 ACSI - ETAS 3

  • 1.4 ETAS Verification Multiple Name Check-In

Even with multiple passengers with the same last name, use the normal entry check-in entry to generate an ETAS validation:

    Example format: G-TERRIER1M1F2/20BNEY/N

    Example response:

    YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M1F 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R REQ DOCS/VISA 2 TERRIER M REQ DOCS/VISA END

As passport details are required and these details are not already present in the passenger records (PP edit code), the system responds with a prompt for this information to be entered.

For multiple names the VI edit indicator must be appended to the identification/passport entry.

The End Item key (&) is used as a separator:

    Example format: G-1/PP-US121212/21MAY63/M&VI

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M1F 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R REQ VISA 2 TERRIER M REQ DOCS/VISA VISA VALIDATION IN PROGRESS PLEASE WAIT END

Response from ETAS indicates passenger 2 now requires validation:

    YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M1F 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R 2 TERRIER M REQ DOCS/VISA END

Now enter Passport details for the second passenger:

    Example format: G-2/PP-US131313/21MAY63/F&VI

4 ACSI - ETAS May 2006 Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc.

  • The response indicates the second passenger is now being processed:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M1F 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R 2 TERRIER M REQ VISA VISA VALIDATION IN PROGRESS PLEASE WAIT END

Response from ETAS shows that both passengers have been successfully validated:

    YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M1F 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R N * 10C# BT PP VI **ETAS OK TO BOARD** 2 TERRIER M N * 10D# PB PP VI **ETAS OK TO BOARD** END

Both passengers have been successfully checked-in, and ETAS has confirmed they are acceptable and OK to board. Seat numbers have been allocated and boarding passes issued. An automatic VI edit has been applied to each passenger

Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc. May 2006 ACSI - ETAS 5

  • 1.5 ETAS Verification Negative Responses

In this check-in example, the passport edit has been appended to the entry. This is permitted only for single passenger check-in.

    Example format: G-TERRIER1M1/10BNEY/N/PP-US121212/21MAY63/M

    Example response:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R N * 10C BT PP VI **ETAS NOT OK TO BOARD SEE VI EDIT** END

The passenger has been checked-in. However, due to the negative response a boarding pass is not issued. The agent should investigate the VI edit and make a decision to either issue a boarding pass (G#BP) or deny boarding.

If multiple passengers are being processed it is possible that one or more will be OK to board but other passengers in the party are not OK. In the following response example two passengers were being processed:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO LIST 1M1F 1/10 BNE Y 3 1 TERRIER R N * 10C BT PP VI **ETAS NOT OK TO BOARD SEE VI EDIT** 2 TERRIER M N * 10D# PB PP VI **ETAS OK TO BOARD** END

The first passenger in seat 10C has been checked-in. However, due to the negative response a boarding pass is not issued. The agent should investigate the VI edit and make a decision to either issue a boarding pass (G#BP) or deny boarding.

6 ACSI - ETAS May 2006 Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc.

  • 1.6 ETAS Verification Seat Change/Seat Swap

Use this entry to change the seat for a passenger who has previously been successfully verified in ETAS.

    Example format: GOC10C10A

    Example response:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO SEAT CHANGE 1 TERRIER R BNE Y N * 10A#R **ETAS OK TO BOARD ADVISE PASSENGERS OF NEW BOARDING PASS

The seat has been changed and a new boarding pass issued. The notation advises the agent that the passenger was OK to board.

If a seat change is made for a passenger where previously the passenger had not been OK to board the response will be similar to the one shown below:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO SEAT CHANGE 1 TERRIER R BNE Y N * 10A#R **ETAS NOT OK TO BOARD SEE VI EDIT** ADVISE PASSENGERS OF NEW BOARDING PASS

The seat has been changed and a notation advises the agent that the passenger is not OK to board.

If a seat change or swap is attempted for a passenger where no VI edit is present the following response will be generated:

    UNABLE CHECK VISA REQUIREMENTS

Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc. May 2006 ACSI - ETAS 7

  • 1.7 ETAS Verification Standby Onloads

Use this entry to onload a passenger from the standby list where the passenger has previously been successfully verified in ETAS.

    Example format: GON1

    Example response:

    YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO STANDBY ONLOAD 1 TERRIER R BNE Y N * 12A#R RV **ETAS OK TO BOARD**

The passenger has been successfully onloaded and a boarding pass issued. The notation tells the agent the passenger is OK to board.

If the passenger is not OK to board the response will be similar to the one shown below:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO STANDBY ONLOAD 1 TERRIER R BNE Y N * 12A R RV **ETAS NOT OK TO BOARD SEE VI EDIT**

The passenger has been onloaded but a boarding pass has not been issued. The notation tells the agent that the passenger is not OK to board.

If an attempt is made to onload a passenger where no VI edit is present the following response will be generated:

NO STANDBY PASSENGERS ONLOADED UNABLE CHECK VISA REQUIREMENTS END

8 ACSI - ETAS May 2006 Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc.

  • 1.8 ETAS Visa Edit - VI

Use this entry to add a Visa verification edit to a passenger.

The response is similar to most edit responses.

The Visa VI edit code will automatically be assigned to a passenger record once a reply back from ETAS has occurred. The trigger for the validation is the passengers destination, which must be an Australian destination.

In the event that ETAS is down or the communications link is down the agent may override the validation check and add free text information to indicate authorization. Only one line of free text may be added and any subsequent additions of free text information will replace the existing data.

Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc. May 2006 ACSI - ETAS 9

  • The VI edit will automatically try to validate passport (PP) data with ETAS. Passport data must be present in order for the ETAS validation to occur:

    Example format: GE1/VI

Example response if passport data is present:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO TERRIER RONN VI VISA VALIDATION IN PROGRESS PLEASE WAIT

10 ACSI - ETAS May 2006 Confidential and Proprietary Sabre Inc.

  • The passport edit also allows the input of a passenger name if the name in the passport is not exactly the same as that for the booked passenger.

    Example format: GE1/PP-121212/21MAY63/M-PERRIER/RON&VI

    Example response:

YY 237 02AUG BWN 1545 PW CO TERRIER RON PP US121212 21MAY63 M-PERRIER/RON VISA VALIDATION IN PROGRESS PLEASE WAIT

If the passport edit code is cancelled it will also remove the VI edit.

    Parameters for the VI edit:

Allowed for a single passenger only.

Edit code may only be applied to a passenger with an Australian destination.

Passport edit must already be present in passenger record or is being added with the VI edit.

Edit may be applied before or after check-in.

Edit code will not be applied to an onward connection.

Edit code will not be applied to an extra seat.

Edit code will not be applied to stretcher or cargo seats.

Edit code may only be applied with passport edit (PP).
